In Buffalo this year:
Hendriks: INSANE stats, lights out the entire year so far.
Stroman: Unimpressive, got bombed plenty

In Toronto:
Hendriks: Gets two starts, wins both and pitches great.
Stroman: First stint is total garbage. Called up recently and pitched alright, won with 12 runs supporting him.

Who do we send down? Hendriks!!!

Come on, Jays. This guy has earned his spot in the rotation. He's been elite in Buffalo and done all you asked so far in Toronto. Stroman is another example of Jays FO rewarding "potential" rather than results (see Drabek, Romero getting 15 more starts than needed to figure out he'd lost it, Snider, etc.). I get it if they are in last place and testing out guys for the future, but that is not (currently) the case.

Probably short term. Stroman deserved another start and they dont want Liam in the bullpen. Probably sent down to continue starting.

While I think Hendriks deserves a shot, you have to remember that he's 25 and this is his fourth year in AAA. Hendriks has over 600 innings in the minors alone. Stroman just turned 23 and has only 166.2 minor league innings under his belt, but he was ranked as the 98th best prospect by Baseball America in 2013. He was 55th coming into this year. MLB.com also had him 55th this year and Baseball Prospectus had him 27th. Hendriks never cracked any lists. Stroman also has some very strong strikeout numbers to along with a 2.4 BB/9 in the minors.

Also, Stroman wasn't getting "bombed plenty" in Buffalo... he had a 3.03 ERA and 45/9 K/BB in 35.2 innings. What the fuck are you talking about?

Three of Stroman's last four starts in the minors were horrible. Maybe bombed is the wrong word (not sure how you'd define that), but he was really bad. So his most recent work was awful in Buffalo.

Hendriks has been consistently dominant. Here are their minor league overall stats:

Hendriks 5-0, 36 K, 3 BB, 1.48 ERA, 0.80 WHIP
Stroman 2-4, 45 K, 9 BB, 3.03 ERA, 1.15 WHIP

Their Toronto Stats:

Hendriks 1-0, 2.31 ERA, 8 K, 3 BB, 2.31 ERA, 0.77 WHIP
Stroman 2-0, 7.30 ERA, 10 K, 1 BB, 7.30 ERA, 1.54 WHIP

Sorry, just not seeing an argument based on what they've done this year to support Hendriks being sent down instead of Stroman.

If we are giving guys credit for their potential and prospect rating over performance to justify major league innings, so be it. That's the only thing that makes sense. It's also the same reason Brandon Morrow continues to be allowed in the rotation whenever he's healthy.

Stroman and Hendriks have 11-12 major league innings pitched this year. It's a next to meaningless sample size.

Hendriks AAA stats are better, but you have to factor in age and experience. Not only is Stroman two years yonuger, but this is also Hendriks' fourth year in AAA and has like four times as many minor league IP.

We shall see. I thought Hendriks could end up being a good pickup for the Jays. Him and Stroman should both be in the rotation IMO.

Stroman pitched 6 strong innings last night and registered 7 K's.

Lets see him get another 2-3 starts in, but perhaps they did make the right choice by sending Hendriks down and keeping Stoman up.

I'm looking and his AAA stats and bio and stuff. What kind of pitches does this guy throw? I can't find that info anywhere.

Let's see how Stroman does. No other option at this point anyways!

My point was more that Hendriks had earned another start based on actual performance. I see the argument that you have some young stud with potential out the arse so you may give him a shot over a guy like Hendriks that only recently looks great but had been a bit of a journeyman before...just don't agree with it. At least not when you are in first place.

Yeah, he has. He's definitely earned his spot in the rotation. I still think Hendriks should get a shot. He had two great starts and one bomber. Rather see him there right now than the inevitable continuing collapse of JA Happ.

Agreed. Happ shouldn't be getting starts on a team trying to make the playoffs.
