I was thinking the opposite actually.

I don't think Romney has energized his base enough, and I don't think he's pursuaded the moderates enough.

If anything, Obama has done more to energize the republican base than Romney.

Gas prices are coming down (just in time) and that will probably be enough for the typical moderate to not make any changes.
