There's a a bunch of media bitching in Boston about Danny not pulling off the sign and trade with the pacers. Hayward has not signed with Charlotte because Jordan and danny are trying to help each other out. If the C's can do a sign and trade, Charlotte will give them their 2021 #1 and an exception. It will create a big cap space for the Hornets and allow Jordan to do some more FA hunting. Danny is supposedly working with MJ on the Hornets also taking a body.

The big LOSER are the Pacers. Hayward was ready to sign for $108M but the pacers wanted to dump salary as well as get Hayward. Turner's salary is for $18,000,000 and McDermott for $7,700,000. The C's have zero use ofr McDermott and wouldn't be able to cut him and not have the $7.7M count against the cap. danny wanted Olipado or Warren. Olipado is $21M and Warren is $12M. Danny knew that they didn't want to let Olipado go and figured that Warren and Turner would be a clean $30M vs $34.5M that Hayward counted. The Pacers refused to move nd and Jordan showed them that his sneakers still work.

With fall and Waters signing two wy contracts, the Celtics are now at the fifteen man roster limit.

This is the way I think it will look when the season starts next month::

BOSTON Celtics::
1 - Kemba Walker
1 - Jeff Teague
1/2 - Carson Edwards
1/2/3 - Marcus Smart
2/3 - Aaron Nesmith
2/3 - Romeo Langford
2/3 - Javonte Green
2/3/4 - Jayson Tatum
2/3/4 - Jaylen Brown
3/4 - Semi Ojeleye
3/4/5 - Grant Williams
4/5 - Daniel Theis
5 - Tristan Thompson
5 - Robert Williams III
???EXCEPTION???

MAINE Red CLaws:
1/2 - Payton Pritchard
1 - Tremont Waters
5 - Tacko Fall

Yeah.

Tacko is never going to be a regular NBA rotation player. But every locker room needs quality people at the end of the bench. And it doesn’t hurt to have a 7’6” practice player either.

Yeah, Tacko is a "situational player" at best, but like you said, every team needs a guy like that on their bench. Plus, if he isn't already, he'll be a fan favorite.

I remember when Chuck Nevitt was with the Lakers, fans used to lose their minds when they put him in a game. People would stay to the end of blowouts just to see him play the last 2 minutes. lol

No way, BK.

If the Celtics and Hornets agree to a S&T for Hayward... we'd have to give them a pick, not the other way around.

they might get a second because this would let the hornets preserve cap space for next summer. But it’s no lottery pick lol

Why would the Celtics, who are doing the Hornets a favor have to give them a pick. The Celtics aren't signing and trading a pick, they're signing and trading Hayward. Have you noticed that Hayward and the hornets agreed this past Saturday, yet there has been no pen to paper? Because the Celtics and Hornets are still trying to iron out what will work best for both. The Hornets are in a corner because right now, they can't sign Hayward.
As far as picks are concerned, you might see Hayward and a second round for a Charlotte first round but Charlotte has to move a body and if the C's do the deal, they have to move a body o two. According to Celtics beat writer Chris Forsberg It much more complicated than what we all are seeing on the surface, but it will get done.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hornets are still in discussions with the Celtics about sign-and-trade options for Hayward. While the two teams appear to have agreed upon the framework of a deal, it would not be a deal that would allow the team to sign Hayward without waiving Batum. As a result, the Hornets are scouring the market for a third team that could take on Batum’s contract and help Charlotte create enough cap space to fit in Hayward’s contract.

Trading away Batum would likely come at the cost of an asset of some quantity. While he is an expiring contract, the $27 million owed this season will likely hamstring a franchise that acquires him for the remainder of the season. But the cost of an asset may be worth not having to pay the $9 million not being on the team’s salary cap sheet the next three seasons, which would hamstring the Hornets themselves moving forward.

It’s a risk-reward proposition the Hornets will have to ultimately weigh before making their final decision on Hayward and Batum.

Early Edition, the Boston night sports talk show on NBCSports say that tradeexception that the celtics would receive is equilivent to Hayward's first year salary in Charlotte. It appears that the celtics will be giving up a high second round pick and a player they have stashed in Europe. First the C's and Hornets have to find a team to take Batum and that might cost the Hornet a pick also.

So what it could come down to is that the celtics will sign Hayward and the Hornet will get him and the third team will get the pick, the European player Batum AND the low level trade exception that the C's have right now and the C's will get the $30M trade exception for trading Hayward. They're having a hell of a time getting all of the pieces to fit.

We don't have to act now... could wait until the trade deadline... could wait until next offseason...

But it's great to have it in our back pocket...

A good article that explains the trade exception and where Boston is at with them:

"Boston has actually generated three trade exceptions this offseason for Hayward, Enes Kanter ($5 million), and Vincent Poirier ($2.5 million). The Hayward exception could be valued somewhere between $27.9 million to $32.4 million depending on the structure of his contract."
