So what do you guys think about the NFL possibly getting rid of extra points? Honestly I think it would be dumb if they do that.

2013 NFL Player Kicking Stats - National Football League - ESPN

Take a look at the stats in this area from last season. Except for 4 kickers (I believe) every kicker made every extra pt (& the ones who didn't only missed one). This play is pretty much a waste of time.

I can see their pt. since this will probably reduce injuries to a small degree. I say either get rid of extra pts. or make it more challenging somehow. Beyond simply opposing any changes to the current rules there really is not a reason to really get upset over this proposed rule change.

I like it. It slows the game down. Plus it does cut down on injuries.

It depends. Are they still going to leave the option of going for 2? That's critical in keeping comebacks alive.

My understanding is that it is an automatic 7 points for a TD. If you decide to go for it, the team will get 8 points total for a successful attempt or have their points reduced to 6 points if unsuccessful. Nothing really changes, as a coach will use the same strategy as to WHEN to try and go for it.

If that's the case, then I would be ok with it.

taking special teams out of the game one by one. instead of punting, the opposing team will just start at the 20 every time. field goals will be non contact, it will just be the kicker, the holder and one opposing defender that stands by them and taunts them to try to make them fuck up, BASEketball style.

That sir might actually be a good thing for our beloved Redskins.

Yep - starting at the 20 yd line every possession would be a major improvement for last year's team! Can't wait to see the STs next season - there is nowhere to go but up. I would be surprised if Burns is even allowed to be an asst coach in high school anytime soon.

i like the extra point try . i dont think there are enough injuries on extra point tries to warrant a change

Look at the link that I provided. The XP is a waste of time. There were 4 misses total among all kickers. Now I won't care if this change is not implemented. However - making the change does not bother me in the least since at this point in time this play is pretty much meaningless. Now if this were applied to college football this would be a different matter since there are plenty of college teams with horrible kickers.

You could be right. However - the advantage may be one less thing for the refs to worry about & one less thing to slow down the game (although the NFL would likely find something else to add time to the game resulting in more commercials & more $$). Anything to simplify the game for the refs would be a plus.
