OSU has the same amount of conference losses as Penn State and has been a superior team statistically while facing a tougher schedule and has fewer total losses. They're the better team. Using a game that OSU was thoroughly dominant in, where PSU was coming off it's bye while OSU was coming off a road night game at Wisconsin, that came down to a late fluke play is not an indicator of who is actually a better team. There is a good reason why OSU is ranked 6 spots ahead of Penn State right now.
And if Penn State wins they will have a 9-1 conference record. To Ohio States 8-1 conference record. As well as a conference championship and a head to head victory :noidea:

Yep, and Wisconsin is 4th in the overall B1G standings. An arbitrary placement of them in the West doesn't mean they're somehow better than OSU just because they get an extra game, which is why OSU is largely considered a lock to be in the playoff.
Well if you think that "Ohio State is largely considered a lock to be in the playoffs", then don't worry so much and let the playoff committee do their job.

Exactly. Penn State if they win this weekend, would have a better BIG 10 Conference record and would have beaten Ohio State "head to head".

Penn State is in the CCG because of a head to head victory over Ohio State. As well as their over all performance in the same division and conference

But they actually didnt control their own fate. Ohio st controlled Penn St's fate. Just think 1 less yard by Barrett and Penn St is NOT in the conference championship, Michigan is. Michigan and Ohio St are better teams than Penn St but just like Penn St against Ohio St, Michigan dominated most of a game and lost. We could be talking about Michigan right now instead of Penn St. Two special teams play and all of sudden Penn St is a better team. I understand they have to win one more but Ohio St already played Wisconsin and they beat them on the road when Wisconsin had two weeks to prepare.

Penn State has every right to be proud no matter what happend. They won on the field and earned it. And that's not something anyone can take away from them. If they win and don't make the play offs. They need to make revisions or expand the play offs imo

Penn State defeated Ohio State. Penn State controlled Ohio States fate. Or the win over Michigan would have given Ohio State a spot in the CCG.

And an extra loss. And still not as good of an overall resume and nowhere near as good of statistics for the entire year against a much easier schedule.

Which is why Ohio State will make the playoff despite not going to the CCG. Thankfully the powers at be can clearly see OSU is one of the 4 best teams in the nation.

Ohio St could have easily threw the game like Durbin almost did and Penn St is not in :laugh3: Michigan controlled their own fate and they blew it.

The fact of the matter is that cannot be overlooked even though Penn St won the tiebreaker to make a CCG is they have two bad losses, not one slip up but a loss vs an average team and a blowout against a team that Ohio St beat. The extra loss and the way they lost will be the reason Penn St might not get in, that will overtake the head-to-head, all criteria has to be factoring in not bits and pieces.

Well let's put it this way. In the BIG 10 record books, Penn State will go down as the BIG 10 East champs for the 2016 season. Ohio State will be shown in the record books as finishing in second place behind Penn State in the final BIG 10 East standing for 2016. Also the record books will show that Penn State beat Ohio State in a "head to head game" during the 2016 season. Those facts will "NEVER" change.

michigan was actually nowhere near as dominant during the game at OSU as OSU was over PSU. Just look at the statistics.

Thats not logical if Ohio State dictated their fate. They would be in the CCG.Thats just a simple fact. I watched the Penn State Ohio State game. It wasn't just one play that cost OSU the game. Penn State played a great game. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. Games are 4 quarters not one play. Gotta give PSU credit they have had a solid year

And last year, we were a ridiculous 4th and 25 conversion by Arky away from Ole Miss being the SEC West champs, with Alabama finishing 2nd behind Ole Miss and that Ole Miss beat Alabama "head to head", but clearly that meant nothing in regards to Alabama belonging or not belonging in the playoff. They were very clearly a top 4 team, just as OSU is this year.

Statistics wise you are absoutely correct and Michigan only dominated for 2 1/2 quarters but they still controlled the game and made mistakes. But unlike Ohio St who made two special teams mistakes we rarely see, Ohio St caused turnovers. So it is a bit different but what I am saying is Ohio St had control of the game and Michigan did halfway through the Ohio St game.

I see what you're saying, but I think it seems like michigan was as dominant because of the magnitude of the game and what we come to expect from Ohio State. Our game vs. PSU was entirely one-sided outside of the final score. However, we actually ended up out-gaining michigan while also getting more first downs.

I never discredited them they had a great year but you arent one of the best four teams when you lose to an average team, get blown out by a similiar opponent and you have ONE top 25 win. ONE. That isnt a good resume and not enough to overtake a very close game that could have went either way. This would be a totally different conversation if Penn st was in complete control of that Ohio St game and they blew them out. That isnt the case.

Let's just put it this way - if you flipped OSU and PSU's seasons around, with PSU having OSU's stats, OSU's resume, and only had a close loss at night in the Shoe with OSU coming off a bye winning on a flukey play while OSU lost to an unranked Pitt team and got smoked by michigan, I would absolutely be saying PSU belongs in the playoff and OSU would need a ton of luck to get in.

Who cares about "last year"? We are talking about the 2016 college playoffs.

Because it's a nearly identical situation involving two elite teams in the same playoff system model.
