Interesting stuff:
Cobb hit .373 vs. Ruth, very slightly better than his career batting average (basically a push)—but he slugged a fair bit worse against Ruth and got on base at a slightly worse clip than against the average pitcher. There weren’t enough plate appearances to say that any of that variance was statistically significant.
In 61 plate appearances vs. Ruth, Ty Cobb had 51 at bats, 7 BBs (zero intentional), 1 SH, 1 SF, and 1 SF.
Those 51 at bats had 19 hits, 1 2B, 1 3B, and 0 HR. 6 Ks and 5 RBIs, and 0 GIDPs.
That gives him a .373 BA, .450 OBP, and .431 SLG for an OPS of .881.
Here's Cobb's stats vs all pitchers. Most plate appearances unsurprisingly were vs Walter Johnson
