"Cokie" as Ol' Jim refers to him, is god awful. When your ERA is over 5.00, as a reliever, you shouldn't be a reliever. You should be a viewer, like the rest of us.

Leyland is an idiot. If he did not trust Coke in a pressure spot against Ortiz (which is the only reason I assume he's on the roster) then why even put him on the roster?

He brought in his closer, not some subpar reliever...I don't understand why he's getting all the flack for that.

Shoot, did you ever see Joe Torre say 'let me bring in Randy Choate to face the lefty instead of Rivera.' Of course not, you bring in Rivera. I'm not saying Benoit is Rivera, but the point is the same...Benoit's supposed to be their best reliever.

Remind me why Coke is on the roster?

I could care less why he's on the roster. Remind me why Coke is a better option vs a lefty than Benoit?

Lefties hit .299 with a .760 OPS vs Coke this year
Lefties hit .188 with a .514 OPS vs Benoit this year

So, you'd rather have the pitcher who pitches much worse against lefties in that situation? Just because he's a lefty....doesn't mean he pitches better vs lefties.

Coke must have had a couple nice starts vs Boston when he was with the Yankees. (Yearrrrrrs ago)His career numbers against Papi can't be from recent events. They just can't be.

I will ask the question again. Why waste a roster spot for Coke if you're not going to use him against Papi in a clutch situation?

Leyland could have won the ALCS there but instead he gave it away.

Only way Detroit win this is if they win games 4 and 5. If they go back to beantown down 3-2 it is DONE

Smyly also is suffering from a "tired" arm. Putkonen wasn't used in critical situations during the season. Phil is respected by the organization for his effort(many bad players are). He somehow masqueraded as a closer last post season. He's a ginger. Two lefties are better than one? There isn't a good reason for him being on the roster, imo. Why do Austin Jackson and Torii Hunter still hit at the top of the order? Why does the third best defensive first baseman, start at first? Why does Lloyd McClendon still get a paycheck? Why does Alex Avilas dad sit next to Dave Dombrowski at lunch? Why does Iglesias pinch hit? A Leyland ran ball club will make you

Ill add another. You dont remove miggy from the game when its close in the late innings for defensive purposes. Im sorry hes played the entire game at third no problem but now that its late ya never know we might need a better defensive 3b. Fuck that, seen it too much. Bringing in someone like don kelly and then hes up to hit with runners on base in a tight game. It just makes no sense. Sure, remove him in a blowout, but not a close game. He can either play third or he cant, what is it JL? Because he should never be getting pulled from game in those situations.
