I know, I know, I know but hear me out on this one. As it stands right now his head coaching resume' reads 35 wins, 48 losses and 1 tie. There's a very real probability that he'd like another opportunity to hire on at some future point for another head coaching stint in the NFL.
Unfortunately, for him, staying on this job puts him in real jeopardy of ending his current stint with a much worse, less inviting resume'. With 12 games remaining on the 2019 schedule, all indications are that his team won't win more than 4 games optimistically speaking, leaving their soon to be former head coach with a record and resume' that reads 39-56 and 1.
By percentage there's only a one point drop if they can get those four wins but for Jay Gruden, "therein lies the rub*" as goes the often misquoted line from Hamlet’s soliloquy about suicide. His record is bad, but it could get worse, possibly to a point where he's lumped into a category with some of the unfortunate souls who got one chance to lead an NFL team. Staying to the end of this season almost guarantees that fate for him.
So since it's still his choice, should he stay to the end or resign now?
(he could get fired somewhere between now and the season's end)
