Dez made a big catch before the half ended yesterday. There was a flag on Sherman for something. I didn't see the ref give the signal but did hear him say half the distance to the goal. If it was holding or PI the penalty would have been declined. What did they call

I believe they called tripping, even though the replay showed that was not the case.

The rule on tripping, as I understand it, is that the player doing the tripping doesn't actually have to make contact with the player being tripped. He just has to attempt to trip. That makes the call rather subjective.

Sherman was kind of flailing around, which must have been interpreted by the ref as an attempt to trip Dez.

After the game I heard it was tripping, but during I thought they called PI. Either way, Dez caught the ball, so I wasn't too worried about it.

I thought the tripping call was suspect, but there were a couple of others that went against us, namely the first holding penalty in the 4th quarter, that were pretty lame too. Both teams DB's were mugging WR's, the Refs were consistent both ways in letting them play I thought

There was one angle that showed Sherman, as he was falling, reaching out and grabbing Dez on his upper leg before Dez caught the ball. It was that grab that made Dez fall. Otherwise that was probably a TD.

I agree. Live I thought he tripped him, but on the replay it was clear that Dez's knee and Sherman's helmet banged together after the catch and that is what actually made the tackle.

I agree, they were mugging Witten all night, but Dallas got away with a few muggings as well so it was pretty much an even called game. I like it when the refs let the players play.

THat was a completely blown call and was actually huge as time was running out in the half BUT..... Dallas still whooped their ass.

It was not a blown call. The broadcast showed an angle that you could see Sherman grabbing Dez on the quadriceps as Sherman was falling, before the catch was made. That grab threw Dez off balance which caused him to go down.

Whether or not that was "tripping" I don't know, but there was definitely cause for a flag.

That wasn't the call. That would have been pass interference and if accepted the yardage wouldn't have been added to the play. It would have been either or.

Okay, I (very poorly) was referring to the fact that a penalty was committed and in that context it was not a blown call.

To say it was a blown call because it was not in fact tripping and actually was pass interference is accurate.

Sorry for the misunderstanding
