I ride my bike a lot here in SoCal and this kind of thing happens every week. It’s awful. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t on my mind when I’m in the street riding sometimes. I’ve had some close calls over the years.

lol. That’s not too far from the truth when I had a beach cruiser and lived in Newport Beach. I had this big comfy leather seat on it that was pretty awesome. We had to lock the bikes outside in this complex where I lived(think Melrose Place or “Singles”-It looked like that).

One day I went out to cruise to the beach and someone had stolen the seat off my bike! I couldn’t believe it. I remember bitching to my gf at the time “people steal bike seats?!?! That’s a thing?” I was bummed. Never found another one quite like it. Now I just have a boring street bike.

Very sad, but all too common. A couple years ago a core member of the local bike community was hit and killed just down the street from my house. It was very sad seeing the memorial there for the year it was up, but hopefully reminds everyone to ride safely and motorist to share the road.

I went through every bike trend ever. The dirt bike RedLine, Mongoose days, the Huffy 54, the banana seat days. Now I have a cool mountain bike with thick tires. Did a great trail on Staten Island last Sunday, kicked my ass, Covid has knocked me way out of shape

I met Shawn when he was recruited by BYU by my uncle. He was a stand up guy. I feel so horrible about this.

I rode my bike (a basic bike I tried to convert into a BMX) to Jr High a few times and someone stole my bike seat. Ahh, the 80s...

Terrible to hear, hope for the best.

That said, I can't get the absurd image of a 7'6 skinny guy riding a bike out of my head now. He must've been quite a sight...
