Mason is a valuable asset and replacing him and Thuney next year would be a monster task and probably near impossible, Getting mason signed until 2024 will most likely up Thuney's game and he may get contract before this season is over. It sends a message to all of the OL that the Patriots will pay for performance but not for position. If Trent Brown excels, the Pats will be looking for LT again next year.

Replacing 4 members of the OL next year could have been a real nightmare. Mason, Thuney, Andrews and Brown. That might force Brady to retire.
