Sam Bradford asked Eagles for $25 million a year, per report

For a guy who had a basically pedestrian year, this is a whole lot chutzpah on his part. The Eagles would actually save six million or so on their cap if they franchised him by using the non-exclusive tag. They wouldn't need to use the exclusive tag because there's no way any team would give up two first rounders for him. But, the Eagles, according to some reports I read / heard, would never consider slapping the tag on him in the first place.

The problem the Eagles face is that they're screwed if they don't sign Bradford. Outside of Cousins, he's the best QB on the FA market. If they don't sign him, they'll probably have to go with Butt Fumble. That would signal that next season will be a rebuilding year instead of one where they're primarily looking to compete. If they do sign him, that'll take $19M off their cap immediately and, if they want to re-sign him next year, that cap number will be the starting price for negotiations then.

Which all brings us back to Cousins. Let's not let Bradford and his agent Tom Condon artificially dictate what the market will be. Sign Cousins sooner rather than later and let that set the market for Bradford and others.

Just sounds like Bradford is trying to price himself out of Philly's market. Its lose/lose for Philly. Bradford wants to hit the market and see what teams are interested.

I just read that this offer was floated before the 2015 started and at a time when he hadn't played football for two years. I can't imagine that Condon and Bradford think his stock has slipped since then. And new Eagles HC Doug Pederson didn't help out Philly's negotiation team too much when he stated that Bradford was a top-notch QB and that he'd fit right into Pederson's system.

This is like taking your girlfriend /wife (but not both) out shopping for handbags, and the lady selling you the handbags telling you that the one your significant other is looking at is $700 off.

Very possible. Kid was the last one of the guaranteed huge contracts coming out of college. He's made his fair share of money without really proving anything on the field, other than he he's more than capable of getting hurt. Even if this does push him out of Philly, some team will pick him up as teams all over the league have QB issues aside from a select few.

Asking and receiving are 2 different things. Guy got drafted right before the rookie salaries were right sized, dude has stolen more money in relation to his talent/performance than Ringo Star. But if the Birds overpay, and it won't be $25 mil, that's a good thing. I really hope they hang their hat on this guy and use up cap space in the process.
