Right now it's looking like the D-Backs may finish with a better record than the Cubs so how exactly does this work?

If the D-Backs finish with a better record than the Cubs and win their 1 game WC game, do they jump up to the 3rd seed and play the Nats or do they remain in 4th and play the Dodgers?

WC winner always plays top seed in the DS I believe.

With the way those 2 teams are playing (D-Backs and Dodgers) I'm not sure if LAD will be happy about that lol

They play another series starting tomorrow in LA. Should be entertaining.

Last series of the year between those 2. I can't imagine how confident the D-Backs would enter a playoffs series if they go to LA and win that series this week.

idk. The 2015 Cubs had a better record than the Dodgers and Mets, but were pitted against the 100 win Cardinals. Pretty sure the WC team is treated as the 4th seed regardless of record.

That should make the NLDS very interesting if the D-Backs continue playing good baseball over the next month and win that WC game

The 3 division winners are seeds 1-3. The WC1 team is seed 4. WC2 is see 5. In the LDS, WC @ 1, 3 @ 2.

It USED to be that if the WC team was in the same division as the 1 seed, it would be 3 @ 1 and WC @ 2 instead. That was changed about 3 years ago, I think...

they have a very solid rotation (in fact, Corbin is their worst SP and he has a 123 ERA+) and Goldy/Martinez can do some serious damage in a short series

I thought the D-Backs could be a dark horse if a lot went right with their rotation, but everything has gone right. It could be one of the best rotations in the last few decades.

So we're pretty much locked in for a Nats/Cubs series with the Nats having HFA.

it's been a pretty weird season for the Cubs, but they have been hitting since the ASB (.283/.360/.488 since ASB, scored 191 runs in August). Their rotation has also been much better in the 2nd half (3.29 ERA in 2nd half vs. 4.66 in 1st half). Arrieta's looking more like the guy in 2014-16 and Hendricks is healthy. Lester just came off the DL as well, though he was a little rusty in his first start back.

Also wouldn't write off the Nats, especially if Harper makes it back healthy. That 3-6 is awfully good and their rotation isn't half bad either.

Dodgers have been awfully good this year, but any of these teams are capable of taking a 5-7 game series from them.

I'm just thrilled we likely get to host the WC game, we've been amazing at home this year... Greinke especially. Believe his record is 13-1 at Chase Field this season.

First gotta focus on winning that game before we look ahead to the NLDS... the 1 game playoff scare the hell out of me, baseball is too unpredictable. Assuming we win it, we can send Ray and Corbin to the mound @ LA in games 1 & 2 and then get Greinke back out there for game 3 in AZ. Godley and Walker in the pen.

It was changed when they added the second wildcard team. It is now set up to reward teams for winning a division instead of just settling for a wildcard.

If ALL National League teams played the exact same competition and schedule.........we could talk

But they don't.

Seeding, by records only, is stupid.

I propose using pitch tracker to call balls and strikes.......Oops, I guess that wasn't the argument.
There would be no arguments about ball and strike calls.........Higher strike zone ....... Fairer umpiring
There would be more strikes called.......Less home runs......Less offense...faster games.

Still waiting...

You said using WL records was stupid.

Obviously, you aren't stupid, so you obviously have a more intelligent system.

Please educate us.
