Let's say there is a QB that slips and/or is coveted by a team below us...

Buffalo is the main team I'm thinking of. There are two teams directly behind us that are in the market for a new franchise QB.

Arizona
New York Jets

By value, the Bengals could get:

Buffalo - 37th pick (second round)

Cincinnati - 41st pick (second round) and 143rd pick (5th round)

Any objections to such a scenario?

None. But I'd imagine we could get more than a 5th round pick in that scenario.

Yeah, usually a traqde even that few slots in the second warrants a 4th round pick typically.

I don't think BWQ's value is far off at all...

last yr's trade back in the first rd for the Bucs to get Doug Martin:

"They sent the 36th pick and the 101st pick, acquired from the Jags earlier in the night, to Denver for the 31st pick and the 126th pick that Denver got in their deal with New England"

Bucs trade back into first round to get Doug Martin | ProFootballTalk

They swapped 4th rd picks to move up 5 spots in the 30's.

Well...the team I proposed in the hypothetical was the only one to take a QB in the first round...so...

Maybe NYJ will want to get in front of Arizona if G. Smith or Barkley or whomever is there?

That would look like:

Jets get - 37th pick (2nd round)

Bengals get - 39th pick (2nd round) and 178th pick (6th round)

I am beginning to like teh idea of a QB like Smith being drafted at 37 to at least push Dalton to be a better QB, and if he doesn't become a better QB, you have your backup ready to take over.

On the other hand, now that there has been a small run on safeties, Cyrien might actually be a good pick up here, as it is a serious spot of need for this team. Also, what is Lacey falls to 37?

Positions we could actually use include:

S, #2 WR, RB, backup QB to push Dalton, DE to replace Johnson or Dunlap next year....

If these players are available, who do you take at 37?

QB Geno Smith
RB Eddie Lacey
WR Justin Hunter
S Johnathan Cyprien
DE Margus Hunt

To me that becomes a pretty hard choice. I would imagine Geno is the best overall value considering he could have been taken #1 overall had KC not grabbed Alex Smith. Plus, I think Dalton needs a kick in t he pants. he has no fear right now, and I think he needs a little bit of that fear to push his game to the next level.

Lacey is the best rated RB in the country, but could you still get value later in the 3rd with Lattimore or Davis?

Hunter is a freak, and would immediately become that Chris Henry type player to pull coverage away from Green, but is that needed as much now that we are probably going to imploy a lot more 2 to 3 TE sets?

Then of course, our second safety is non existant and we need one very badly. But there are a few pretty good safeties who I think are about equal in value: Cyprien, Swearinger, Thomas, Shawn Williams and Wolff.

I do think we should be looking at DE also to think about replacing Johnson or Dunlap next year, but what of value to our team is still available and are they worth the 37th pick? Hunt, Carradine, Montgomery, Okafor? Of the 4, I would much prefer Hunt with his tall frame, weight, and speed. Who knows?

If we do not draft Geno and he's available I'm going to lose it.

I don't want Geno. I would have been glad to get Manuel, though. I think we need to take Cyprien if he's there.

Eddie Lacy is the best player on the board and if he is still around when we pick, we would be absolutely stupid not to take him. The guy is a bull dozer.

Think about that offense now if Lacy and Eifert are in the mix, Dalton would have absolutely no more excuses...

Lacy shouldn't be picked until the 3rd round. He won't bulldoze Timmons, Woodly, Suggs etc.
