Hawks signed CJ Spiller which looking back I kinda wished like most people they would have been able to keep Troymaine Pope to avoid this or sign zac brooks from the practice squad. I am guessing he will just be used to catch passes out of the backfield who knows. What is everyones thoughts?

Seahawks Reportedly Signing C.J. Spiller, Former Top 10 Pick

I think the Hawks wanted to get some experience in their backfield behind Michael. It'd be great if Prosise was ready to go, but a veteran presence in the backfield is good too.

Besides... this coaching staff has a good history with former Bills running backs. :)

Spiller fell off so quick and NO really didn't utilize him properly. With Rawls hurt, he gives you a capable backup.

Not expecting too much at all from him until after the bye. Even then, not sure what there is to make me think he gets more than 5 or 6 touches a game, especially if CM is still rolling along at well over 4 ypc.

Beatmode retires and the guy that made him expendable in Buffalo comes aboard. I always loved Spiller but I don't think he has anything left in the tank. Horrible waste of talent with him on those awful bills teams.

I think he can be a useful pass catching back. I'm hoping he has at least half a tank left which is all we need.

I don't mind the Spiller signing, as long as it's a temp replacement for Prosise to heal 100%. I don't want Spiller nearly 30 taking away ANY reps from a VERY young backfield.

That said, a runningback like him mentoring Prosise (if he will mentor and is that type of person) is invaluable. Spiller was a very competent receiving RB, just not worthy of where he was drafted. Still, injuries kept him down a bit... I wouldn't mind having that talent mentor our younger guys.

Will be interesting to see how Seattle integrates him.

I think he only played 9 snaps or something like that, but not bad for a guy who had only been on the team a few days. He still has that speed/burst and good hands. Could end up being a nice insurance policy in the backfield for injuries & inexperience in the other players.

CJ Spiller didn't last very long. He's out and Will Tukuafu is back and hopefully stays on the team for the remainder of the season.

Prosise should be seeing the field more

I'm not all that surprised that Spiller didn't last long here. I assumed when he was signed that he was only going to be here to add depth/a pass catching threat out of the backfield while Prosise was out. Now that Prosise is healthy and has gotten some playing time, Spiller has become redundant. Besides, with the offensive line situation being what it is and with Wilson racking up more injuries in 6 games than he racked up in the previous 4 years combined, some extra protection in the form of a fullback was necessary.

Tuku should never have been let go or should have been brought sooner. Better late then never.
