I'm stunned by the DB released. Kam is expected, but Doug?

My guess is, DB is trying to prove that he can still play, Hawks didn't want that? By releasing him, he'll get a chance to prove it elsewhere.

49ers are going to pick him up and be teammates with Sherman again.

On Doug, I think he's probably retiring but he won't lose any signing bonus money since he was cut by the team. Classy move by the organization.

This one hurts. Ain't gonna be all happy.

Those two gave us some glorious memories.

I'm iffy affy on this.

One one hand I like the Undrafted star story and would love to see him end it on his terms.

On the other He was to be smart and listen to his body, not his pride

The passion and the "Angry Doug" mantra he has had throughout his career kinda led me to believe this.
Somehow, not sure if this is the way he wants it to end. It's the same kind of mindset that Sherman has.

But you're exactly right, I would love it for him to listen to his body and call it a career.

The combined cap savings from these 2 moves is over $9M. Ansah will probably negate most of that, but we still have the $17M from trading Frank Clark. I suspect we'll see another signing or 2 or we can roll some over to next year when Russell's extension kicks in.

Ansah signing really only costed 5.5 Mill with incentives he can get 8+ mill more. I think that is tied into health and i don't think he will be healthy 100% for most of the season. 30 year old with injury history, it won't vanish for one season and not his 30th but you never know. I say he earns his 5.5 and the Hawks sit with 20 mill in cap space.

Hey Wagz you want a new contract!?!? Hawks got the room to pull something off with Wagz now. Or Maybe get something done with Reed and Franchise Wagz next year? I think we will find out soon.

My thoughts as well... He always won't lose any of his insurance...

Damn... DB was a BEAST. Really sad that we wont see RW to DB again. HUGELY underrated receiver.

Kam was expected, but I think the dead cap basically saves us zero this season? Either way, we have TONS of money to sign B Wags and Reed next season.

'likeing' as this is the first news I've seen. Thanks @seahawksfan234

Sorry to have to break the bad news.

Even when Baldwin wasn't putting up huge numbers, he was always one of the most under appreciated WRs in the NFL.

Here is how this effects the cap:

2019:
Kam Chancellor
: $10.2m in dead money, $2.3m in cap savings.
Doug Baldwin: $6.2m in dead money, $6.8m in cap savings.

Total: $9.1m in cap savings.* (Realistically, it's actually $7.9m. Until Baldwin passes a physical - which is unlikely - he will carry an additional $1.2m cap charge for 2019 to cover injury protection under the CBA)

2020:
Kam Chancellor
: $0 in dead money, $13.4m in cap savings.
Doug Baldwin: $0 in dead money, $14.5m in cap savings.

Total: $27.8m in cap savings.

As with 2019 if Baldwin is still unable to pass a physical, there will be a $575,000 cap hit for the same reasons. So the number will more likely be $27.3m.

Darn shame these two couldn't finish out their careers in a timely manner. Sucks injuries took two of our best from this team.

more than two
Avril, Thomas, Kam, Lockette ( beast special teamer ), Lockette, Avril and Kam all with the same neck injury where Lockette's was the worst.

Just for this season alone. Hawks have been hammered the last couple of years with career enders. Sad

If you guys haven't already, go check out DB's twitter page. Wrote a long letter to himself and at the end, it pretty signals retirement.

A word of caution: It's a bit a tear jerker.

How can you not like this guy as a player and as a person? Seriously.

Came here to post that.

Normally I don't get emotional over players/player retirements, but man you gotta love Doug. The things he said can resonate with anyone irrespective of age, you have to really admire his resilience.
