You're confusing value with talent...

im not, im facing the facts that RBs are a low value position that have a very short shelf life. round 1 and round 2 should be spent on positions with more longevity and importance.

I get that but the top talent is still in the 1st few rounds regardless of value... That goes for every position... It's rare to find a gem in 4-7 that will play at a pro bowl level for 3-5 years...

Let's look at 2021 top 5 RB's for SAG's...

Taylor: Round 2; Pick 40
Chubb: Top of Round 2: Pick 35
Mixon: Round 2: Pick 46
Harris: Round 1: Pick 24
Cook: Round 2: Pick 41

Seems like the top 5 RB's are 1st and 2nd rounders in 2021... The talent is still at the top of the draft tree... Not 4-7... That goes for every position... You're confusing value with talent...

In the last 5 years, the difference between the average RB taken in rounds 1-3 vs. the average RB taken between 4-7 is staggering.

Mixed results here, but the outstanding trait is you need great QB play to win the SB. Talent at RB however is needed, and most of that is found at the earlier rounds. What are Wendell Smallwood and Dion Lewis doing to carry their teams these days? Do we have great QB play coming this year? No. So, get that talent at RB on the cheap and fill the QB hole when you can get the needed talent, which definitely was not this draft.

Not only what is Smallwood doing, but Philadelphia felt RB was such a hole after winning the Super Bowl that they used their 2nd round pick in the next draft to take a RB.

now look at their productivity post PB and AP. there is a steep drop off with few exceptions. I just dont think a top pick is worth taking players at a flash in the pan position that are almost never worth resigning.

this guy has some potential, seems like a confidence thing on why he’s had some failures, but if he’s coached up, builds some confidence, we could have something here .. He can run, has a canon of an arm, just needs confidence and experience …Hoping Pete and company can coach him up, help him with consistency…

One positive thing about an early pick on a RB is you'll likely get their best years in the first contract when they are not making a ton of $, which is not the case with QBs or WRs. RBs who are good in the NFL are usually good right away and do not need 2-3 years of seasoning or development. I am not sure it makes a ton of sense to use a 1st round pick on a RB who you don't plan to make the primary ballcarrier, but I think it can be a good move if you need that workhorse and already have a proven QB.

Having different HCs and OCs with different systems during each of his 2 years in Denver didn't help his development, and neither did the lack of camps due to covid.
Of course he now has his 3rd new HC, OC, and system in 3 years. So who knows what is going to happen.

The team seems to be approaching him with cautious optimism. I am concerned the PC's unwillingness to deviate from his core philosophies to accommodate his personal's strengths and limitations could be an issue but that has been the case for over a decade now. So it is what it is.

For those of you questioning the Kenneth Walker selection, would this help change your mind?

I asked a member of the coaching staff - someone who would know - what is going on with Carson and he told me the team hasn't heard anything about his neck surgery. They have no idea where he's at health wise right now. Sadly, I'd be surprised if Carson ever plays football again.

I also asked how the snaps would be distributed between Walker and Penny and he told me that Penny will be the starter and we'll see from there. Seems the staff is really high on Penny and they don't think that his stretch at the end of the season is a fluke. Just a matter of him staying healthy.

Nothing you can't find out on Twitter, but obviously I'm not a journalist so he was speaking very candidly with me.

In NFL history there have been some fantastic players that go un-drafted, Warren Moon for example, Kurt Warner, and mind boggling James Harrison went un-drafted, dude was a monster.. So there are un-drafted gems to be found, the draft isn’t a perfect science … This Levi kid looks dynamic, glad we picked him up, not saying he’ll be that guy, but you never know …
