Pete wants to run more.

We might as well just trade Russ.

That was quick.

Honestly, I'm on board. He showed no ability to adjust mid game or over the course of 8+ games. I don't put all of that on Pete wanting to be a little more conservative. Hell, lately Carson hasn't even been given the opportunities to run.

I don't have a problem with firing Schotty. I have a problem with Pete thinking that the problem is that we need to run more.

Seeing how the offense went to shit as the season progressed I’m not surprised and think it’s a good move. As for running more, I’m for it and it will benefit Russ. Unless you have a really good pass blocking OL you can’t be pass heavy and succeed. Run the ball good and the pass rush can’t just jailbreak for the QB and it aids the defense as they can catch their breath.

I don't disagree, but I really think the problem was the inability to do anything other than deep shots. Those big plays have always been a part of an offense under Pete, but they're set up better by a strong run game.

We need someone who can scheme up a passing game that counters the defense, and Schotty proved without a doubt he couldn't.

I would love it if we could run the ball 30 times with a 5 ypc. But if you can't do that then run dominant offenses need really strong defenses to keep the game close.

We have to rush more than the 60/40 ratio they ended the season with... Last year, Carson had 18.5 attempts per game... This year, 12 attempts per game...

I'm just hoping this sends the message to the rest of the coaching staff. It wasn't just offense where we were struggling.

Norton, you best be on lookout.

Good defenses usually are paired with a offense that runs the ball well. They go hand in hand.

Unless you were talking about our past game, where we could only have one or the other, never both.

100%. Petes offense is smash mouth running with play action deep balls. Its simplistic and requires the right players but it will work and we already have the qb and wrs to make it work.

Better OL and now RB are needed. And more consistent defense.

A few options I'd consider:

Mike McDaniel: Running game Coord for the SF 49ers
Mike Kafka: Passing game coord/QB Coach for the Chiefs
John Embree: Asst HC and TE's coach for the SF 49ers
Adam Gase: FA... He wasn't a good HC but he was a very good OC...
Anthony Lynn: FA... He's a very good offensive minded HC...

I agree.

I also don't think it should be difficult to game plan for an adjustment against stout run defenses. We need adaptability. Look at how the Pats consistently game planned to match their opponents over the years.

Agreed. The problem is that for the running game to really work you need 2 things.

A lethal play action
A very strong defense.

The Titans never were going to go far because they had the 1st but not the 2nd.

We just can't spend the entire 1st half against good teams trying to establish the run. We just wind up too far behind.

I don't see them going to the Model T era... We have Russell Wilson... He's best in PA Pass like you say.. 20x's per game is what we need to do... Especially when they run the 2 deep Safeties where we were still trying to throw the ball downfield... We need someone who is creative when he needs to be that will create those PA opportunities for RW...

I don't think you said this but I disagree with those that think Pete wants to get back to Smash mouth football... I think he wants someone who will just commit to the run more so it can create more opportunities for our running game...
