Interesting read, but it'll never happen. After what Spanos has done, I honestly don't want them back unless he promises to sell the team.

Mover's remorse in San Diego
As much as the Chargers' move to Los Angeles angered San Diego, it angered NFL executives and owners just as much, if not more.

Since the move was announced, the NFL has been "besides itself," in the words of one league source. "There are a ton of owners very upset that [the Chargers] moved," one source said. The source added that the NFL wants the Chargers to move back, though nobody believes that possibility is realistic.

But some NFL owners and some league officials are still hoping that, now that the move has been made official, Chargers chairman Dean Spanos will wake up one morning soon, recognize this situation has been "bungled so bad" and take his team back to San Diego, where it spent the past 56 years. Again, the chances are at best remote that this happens.

But there are owners and league officials still praying that the longest of long shots comes in and the Chargers bolt back to San Diego.

It's a shame that the Chargers had to leave San Diego. Still I think it's a longshot still that they do end up staying in San Diego.

This fan has moved on. I'm excited to demolish Qualcomm, get an MLS franchise, and watch the world version of football. Of course I realize I'm in the minority with regards to my love of soccer.

I am trying to understand this then. I read in order for Oakland to move to Vegas that 75% of the owners have to vote to approve. Didnt San Diego have to have a vote like this as well in order to move to LA? If so I am guessing they must have had this vote allowing them to move. If this is the case how can any owners bitch about the move wanting them back if it was voted on that they could move?

because they were hoping their move approval threat would be enough to get sandiego to cave on building a new stadium.......

It was part of the vote for St. louis to move to LA. The NFL wanted them to open it up to another team sharing the stadium so I think because the Rams agreed to that and they put that as part of the vote that approval had already been granted. I think the owners though were hoping that with getting that approved it would scare San Diego fans into voting to get the new stadium. They called the bluff and well now the Owners are stuck.

Really I'm interested to see what they do now after having lost their greatest threat to fans. Heck I remember that happening when the Broncos were going to build their last stadium of threatening to move to LA if approval didn't go through. It got approved by a wide margin but again just having that threat was something a lot of teams used.

California is such a shit hole. "WOOHOO #1 DEBT BY FAR in the Country but hey! Let's build a couple new stadiums and move NFL teams here!" That whole state needs to break off and sink into the Pacific. I doubt anyone would care. Plus it'd get rid of a ton of hippies.

Well at least you're used to not seeing a lot of points scored.

Which of these stadiums did "California" pay for?

Schefter, whatta putz. I'll never forget when he jumped the gun on announcing the nfl defensive player of the year in 2010, and he announced clay matthews' name, but polamalu won it, lol

I heard The Raiders have to get approval from 24 owners (75%) to move to Vegas. If this commentary by Schefter is to be believed, The Chargers didn't. Why didn't they?

So letting your basketball team head to the middle of fucking nowhere is the better answer?

To be fair, I don't like California either and agree with your post almost completely, but I was just pointing that out as Devil's Advocate.

Uh, when were we talking about basketball?

lol jokes aside I get what you're saying, but CALI as a taxpayer is the LAST place I'd move right now unless you're just making bank. Ohio isn't near a beach but a lot of those middle states are the best places to live economically and happiness wise. Zero traffic, cheap products, cheap housing/land, minimal taxes, etc.

I agree, I have relatives in Ohio and Indiana. They wouldn't move if you bought them a beachfront house in Cali.

But then again, they are already fucked sideways, so why not get a couple fancy stadiums out of it?

IMO, you might be in the minority...I'm sure a lot of fans are still pissed, but at the same time still in a state of shock. Should thismove continue to get a bad reception in LA and Spanos swallows his pride and came back to SD...I think the Chargers would be welcomed back with open arms.

I really think the best of both worlds would be for Spanos to come back and sell the team to an owner willing to build the downtown stadium.

The Falcons toyed with moving to the 'burbs imo as a ploy to get the city of ATL's attention that they were serious about a new stadium. ATL's public transportation is not developed enough imo to really even consider it. The Braves have moved to Cobb county (about 15-18 miles from downtown)...I think that will be a traffic nightmare.
