He wasn't the only King player to file. Lewis, Martinez and Muzzin did also. I wonder who of the four will actually go through the arbitration process. I can see Lewis and Muzzin getting pretty good awards if they do.
List is down to 3 now. I just saw on TSN.ca/nhl that Muzzin signed a 2-year deal for a Million per year. I wonder if the Kings will actually let any of Lewis, Martinez and Nolan walk.
I hope Lewis sticks around, as I mentioned in a ESPN thread somewhere I think he is everything I had hoped Richardson would have been. Nolan I think is a great guy to have around on the 4th line and some 3rd line duties, he has shown he has some skill and can improve. Nolan also drops the gloves and will protect his team which is increasingly important with the Torres/Ribero/Cooke ect. Martinez I don't much care about, he is a great 5-7 guy and I think he can also improve given a chance, but I wouldn't be that disappointed if he was let go....
The bad news is that the Kings ca not walk away. If the arbitor give them less than 3? Mil they can no longer be made UFAs. This is why Penner wont be a King.
I never realized there was a bottom limit on an amount the team could walk away from. Doesn't seem fair to the teams if all they feel they want to offer is the MQO. Looks to me like this gives players in the first time eligible for arbitration category all the advantage in any negotiations. Would make some sense to me if the rule was just for team requested arbitration?
