I don't envy that. Man that is brutal.

When one conference loss could eliminate you from the division crown. Yikes.

Actually it makes a ton of sense to start the season with a tough game. In this awesome system of ours, when you lose can be more important than who you lost against.

Don't worry, I'm sure we will get another cupcake at the end of the season in the cotton bowl.

Recruting

You're a school from texas and you are playing a game against a team from Cali in Texas for recruiting? LOL. I know your new to the SEC so I'm gonna give you a break. I'm sure they will give you the excuse handbook next year once you're in good standing. You must be on probation still.

Alabama's is even worse

at least Rice made a bowl game

Florida Atlantic is the only team Alabama plays that didn't have a losing record this year

West Virginia is at least a big name opponent, but they need to really improve to be a worthwhile opponent even.

Alabama plays Southern Miss, who had one of the worst losing streaks ever before beating UAB to end the year and plays Western Carolina.

You fail to mention Alabama plays something called western Carolina as their second to last game of the season. Thats not a cupcake. At the end of the season thats a freaking cake. lol

So, its OK to have an in conference schedule with multiple push overs, but you can't have any in your OOC?

The OP was talking shit about A&Ms OOC cream puffs. I simply brought out the fact that both teams have an equal number of less than impressive teams on their over all schedule. So, what's the difference?

Good lord . The difference is you pick your OOC games and you have to play your scheduled conference games. You can't be that ignorant can you? (don't answer that.lol)

and now A&M is getting strong OOC schools back on the schedule. Lost a few when we made the jump from the 12. Those big schools don't have openings until 2-3 years out, so you play who you can.

Not dramatic enough for some people on this board but true.

No, I won't ... 4 teams in the top 9, 5 of the top 15, 7 of the top 24. 7-3 in bowls. SEC did just fine, just came up short in the NC game.

Now, queue up the predictable ESPN bias BS, and the "yeah, but your team sucks" verbiage.

As for Baylor and OkieJr ... those are the teams that got beat by an AAC team and an SEC team? So much for brutally raping anything.

OU, they get credit for their win, but are swinging on their nutsack? And while you put me down for being Team SEC, here you are Team BigXII. LOL.

As for calming down, all I said, with tongue fully in cheek, was that the OOC didn't matter because the SEC IC schedule is so tough.

Sorry, but when MIZZWHO almost wins the SEC in only their 2nd year, a pheg is your best defensive player and an average OU team takes your king behind the woodshed, your conference isn't that tough.

glad someone else agrees that 2013 Big12 was better than 2012 big12. If your second best getting taken to the woodshed means you aren't that tough, then :suds:

He went on to rip the nonconference schedule of Texas A&M. "Lamar, SMU, Rice, Louisiana-Monroe, those are all a bunch of toughies," Stoops said with heavy sarcasm.

That's pretty much what Colorado is, podunk NE State, but you call it a "conference rival game"!

BTW, that's what the AD is supposed to do...arrange a given slate of teams into the optimum schedule. Your AD isn't bright enough to intersperse the cupcake games and bye weeks instead of blindly setting them all up at the beginning of the season.

UF's schedule has evolved over the years. In the 70's we played only 6 conference games plus Miami and FSU to end the season. The Miami game was moved to start the season in 81. In '88 the SEC went to 7 conference games and went to 8 conference games in '92 when the divisions were set up. It was during that time we dropped Miami. The expanded SEC schedule, along with our fan's and president feeling unsafe in the Orange Bowl (which is not in a good part of town) plus the need for more home games to pay for stadium expansions (in 1981 the stadium held 62,800 but has been expanded 3 times to 88,550, now) doomed the Miami game. Another problem UF had was playing Auburn and UGa back-to-back. In our first 83 years of play we managed to beat both in the same year 7 times. So when Spurrier got here he pushed to revamp the schedule. He placed the bye week in between Auburn and UGa. When the season was extended to 13 weeks UF placed the second bye before FSU at the end of the season. When the SEC changed the west rotation from "two traditional rivals plus one " to "one rival plus two" we lost our annual game with Auburn but kept the bye in front of UGa. When the NCAA went to 12 games UF simply placed the "extra" game in the bye week before FSU. UF simply schedules a cup-cake instead of having a bye week.

Thus, the current schedule is 2 OOC (usually cupcakes) to start the season, then the 8 game SEC schedule (with the bye week STILL in front of the UGa game), and finish with a cupcake and FSU.

You can't argue with success, since 1990 when Spurrier arrived, UF has the 3rd best W/L record in D1a (232-73-1) behind OSU (235-65-3) and FSU (239-67-1) despite UF playing 27 more Top 10 teams than OSU and 24 more than FSU.
