I like the defensive pairings.
Tyler Myers, proud owner of the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year, obviously made a league-wide impact last season. Count Shaone Morrisonn among those who took notice.
Morrisonn, who played for Washington, vividly recalls his first meeting against the Buffalo Sabres last year. Myers blocked eight shots during the Sabres' 3-0 victory in December, but it was the defenseman's work at the opposite end of the rink that got Morrisonn's attention.
"I was always noticing him up in the rush next to me," Morrisonn said Friday. "I was like, 'What's this big guy doing here?'"
The rest of the line up....
The duo will be part of a veteran lineup tonight against the Maple Leafs. Ryan Miller is expected to start in net before giving way to Jhonas Enroth.
Derek Roy centering for left wing Thomas Vanek and right wing Drew Stafford
Tim Connolly in the middle of Luke Adam and Jason Pominville
Rob Niedermayer flanked by Tyler Ennis and Zack Kassian
Paul Gaustad between Nathan Gerbe and Cody McCormick.
The other defense pairs will be Chris Butler and Drew Schiestel, and Brayden McNabb and Andrej Sekera.
