I have to say that although I am happy that we are out from under that contract, he did a decent job in Buffalo and did give us a slight glimmer of hope.

Maybe. I don't think anyone is going to give him a starting job, what is top backup money nowadays?

He's not getting top back-up money from us. We were talking to him to determine how much over the minimum he was expecting.

Fitzy is way too intelligent to ever come back here. Anywhere else he signs on as a backup would pay him more than MB.

At least here he'd have a chance to win the starting job.

He's probably better than Dalton, but he would never be given the opportunity to win the starting job.

Though it would be interesting to see what would happen to Dalton's confidence when a capable back-up is on the bench.... He would either have to raise his game or he might crack.

Why not? Giving him a biggish contract (for a backup) for one year seems like a perfect scenario for everyone involved. The Bengals get a competent backup and a way to stash some of the money they want to use on AJ, Dalton, and Atkins next year; and Fitz has the chance to prove he can still be a starter to the rest of the league if Dalton goes down.

For one.... I'm guessing Fitzy will want more than a year deal.

And remember, just because it makes sense, it doesn't change a simple fact......

Just how many of those Mike Brown pictures have you saved? You seem to be able to pull them like they were guns.

Mortensen says Fitzpatrick to the Titans is almost a done deal, but he listed the Bengals (and about half the league) as interested in signing Hasslebeck now that he's been released.
