He is about to pick the 49ers over Lions and Seattle. 6'2 225Lbs and runs a 4.5 40 yard dash. I watched is work out video and he looks good. This will be another project for the 49ers but I like the Idea. Expected to try out at RB.

What do you guys?

I'm not impressed at all with the whole announcement thing. Him keeping everyone waiting while he posted on Instagram? Who does this guy think he is anyway?

Our future punt returner? I mean one thing that should be natural to him coming from Rugby is running with the ball and avoiding tackles in a hectic situation like a punt return.

Having watched the workout video, I'm not sure he has the short-area quickness and footwork to make it at RB. We'll see, but fighting through trash on an NFL line is very different from the wide-open Rugby League field.

first things first, you need to make good decisions on punts.....run up and fair catch it, or let it bounce cause you can't get into a good position? He'll then need to get used to the speed of gunners coming right at him.

good practice squad pick up... shouldnt be head line news or have the drama of a 5 star high school player putting the college hat of his choice.

That's the sort of thing he should be most familiar with. Very similar to what he would have done on a daily basis playing rugby. I don't know if he's quick enough for PRs, though.

He has to get used to NFL tacking. He is already 27 years old, so I am not expecting alot.

He will be lucky to make the PS IMO. He still walks away with 100g guaranteed. I wish him luck.

Good post, Yeah I agree he might see the field as a Kick returner or Punt returner.

What about Hybrid TE?

An H-back/ back might be his best bet of getting on the field any time soon. I think he's going to struggle running through trash at the line - too bad given his measurables. But he might have a place if we can get him the ball in space.

I've always wondered how one of these guys would translate. Beasts no doubt, but how/does it translate? Playbook and picking up things in the game are given challenges, but he'll have to also learn how to run lower and utilize his head and shoulders which are for the most part off limits in terms of tools to push through would be blockers. Long way to go but there's no denying his speed and instincts.

Feels a lot like our venture with Lawrence Okoye (an Olympic track and field athlete). Both physical specimens, but thus far Okoye has not been able to make that translate onto the field. Is he still on our squad? Did he ever crack the regular season roster?

I was thinking about Okoye...

49ers should room Okoye with Hayne. World class discuss Britt with a world class Aussie rugby dude. The all international room mate combination!

I am hoping Okoye still turns out. We could use a young guy on the D-line and he's a physical specimen.

Not sure if Hayne is as valuable? If Hayne works out we have a backup RB and a punt return guy.
