POLL Roster management - Starting rotation

How do you think the Giants should assemble the starting rotation (you can select multiple options)?

  • Go with a traditional 5 man rotation

  • Use Cueto, Samardzija & Gausman for the front 3 and fill the back 2 with openers

  • Go with a 6 man rotation, with the 6th spot a opener

  • Trade Cueto, Samardzija and/or Gausman in the offseason

  • Sign a free agent to fill the 4th spot (suggest starter in comments)

  • Sign a free agent to fill the 5th spot (suggest starter in comments)

  • Use Anderson, Beede, Rodriguez, Suarez, Anderson, Franco, Menez or Webb as openers

  • Use Anderson, Beede, Rodriguez, Suarez, Anderson, Franco, Menez or Webb as traditional starters

I think the Giants should go with a 5/6 man rotation (depending on how good of ST’s that Beede, Webb and DRod have). If all the yutes impress, than have a 6 man rotation to take pressure off of Cueto’s and the kids arms. If one falters, just have a 5 man. I think one of Gausman or DRod doesn’t perform and goes to the bullpen.

I wouldn’t employ any “openers”. Openers are for teams trying to win now. Giants need to see what they have in these guys imhumbleo.

At this point signing anybody seems counterintuitive...I would have preferred Alex Wood to Gausman, but maybe Wood wants to remain a starter and Gas can was open to both? I mean, I’m all for flipping assets at the deadline, but not at the expense of learning what the Giants have in the kids.

Giants just signed Tyson Ross to a minor league deal. Hey, if he looks good, see if we can get something back midseason. If he looks bad in ST, I hope that they let him walk.

If there’s value to be had for Sammy or Jonny (and by value, someone likely to be a starter in 23/24) - trade em

Go with the deepest rotation that will give the greatest opportunity to let young talent develop/showcase

Agreed. If we're tearing down and rebuilding, go all in. Hopefully Cueto and Sammy will have good first 15 starts or so, then trade them for prospects, preferably SP's. Keep Posey around to help school them. If we can dump Belt the same way, all the better.

Ah, the risks of posting on the bleeding edge ... a day later, Drew Smyly signed. ;)

 If you are referring to the last post on here, that was after the Smyly signing and due to a statement from, I believe, Harris that the Giants were still looking at more starting pitching to sign.
