Just saw JP on their last tour. First concert ever was a JP defenders of the faith tour and the first album I ever bought was Screaming for Vengeance so I'm a bit attached to the band. They were so bad I walked out and Halford has so much auto-tune going on that you can't even call it singing anymore. He went low and the at apparently didn't pick it up and his real voice is awful. He's just using the mic to trigger stuff basically. And there's always been a lot of studio magicry going on with his voice. I don't care what your range is is your mediocre at every octave. Saw Dio and he was the exact opposite. The guy's voice was a tank live. This is just no contest.

I think a lot of that is the style of singing. I imagine Halford's vocal cords took a much bigger beating over the years (insert joke about sucking cock here). Back when they were starting out that dude could fuckin' belt it out with the best of them.

That said, yeah Dio was just so god damn powerful and he's definitely my favorite metal vocalist ever. I'd give it to Dio.

This is a horrible choice. If I had ten choices, I’d pick RJD with all ten. Judas Priest was third rate.

RJD was just way off the charts awesome. I am not a big fan of this genre though.

Saw both in their primes, would probably give RJD the edge overall but Halford in his prime had more range. Saw Dio on the last tour he did with Heaven and Hell and Radio City Music Hall and he was still preforming at a very high level and sounded great. Haven't seen Priest since the Turbo tour 30 years ago.
