Marvin Lewis is considering hiring Woodson to be secondary coach here. Woodson is reported to be interested in the job. It's just a matter of whether Lewis makes the hire.

From what I've read, if the Bengals offer him the job, he'll take it.

Meh. Oakland's secondary was porous last season. Their #1 corner alone had 17 penalties.

Word is Hue was going to fire him before he got fired himself. McKenzie still followed it up with a firing.

I don't want a former player that's trying to make it coaching. Give me an experienced brainy guy.

I think blaming him for Oaklands secondary is a bit unfair. They lost a top 2 CB and he only had a year. Hardly a fair chance at things.

Simply making the point that I'd rather have someone proven or least experienced. Regardless of circumstances concerning Woodson, with as porous as our secondary became last season, I want someone that absolutely knows what he's doing. Woodson is not that guy.

I'm with Rey here -- I loved Rod Woodson as a player. He was a special talent and he had abilities that are hard to duplicate. As a coach? Who knows? He certainly hasn't earned his way into the position though.

And who do you think we're going to get? That is a proven guy who will make our secondary better??

Didn't Coyle have an assistant last year?

I would imagine Woodson and the assistant would still be together helping Woodson transition easier to be the lead DBACK coach.

I don't know - I don't know a lot of guys that coach DBs in the NFL. But I didn't know who Louie Cioffi or Kevin Coyle were either. Turns out that they were both highly regarded DB coaches that have now been promoted on other teams. That's my point -- Just because you haven't heard of the guy doesn't mean he's not as good a coach as the former player. In most cases they are probably better as very few former stars make good coaches. I think Marvin and Zimmer have been around long enough to recruit decent assistants.

Meh, I'm fine with Woodson. I'm sure he has some things he can show the young guys, and we may have rookies at CB and S, along with Sands and Nelson, who need coaching up.

It would have been nice to get a proven linebackers coach. We haven't had a good linebacker in years and we've had some major busts with top picks.

I think you guys are reading too much into DB coach. Most good DB coaches aren't DB coaches anymore. They move up, so you get guys who are just starting out, or who aren't good enough to move up. We signed Mark Carrier, who coached Baltimore's secondary for a few years, the Jets D-line coach the last few years, and now here. Big whoop. I don't see that it makes much difference.

We get a guy who knows what he's doing instead of a guy who's just giving it a go to see if it works out.
