It's has always been the dumbest thing in all of professional sports to have an ump determine balls & strikes
from the angle behind the plate.

I’m old and don’t like it. No matter what you use, IMO<<<<<<<< it becomes a push at seasons end.

Cannot take baseball that seriously until they do away with umps calling pitches. Even watching the Mariners and Astros a couple days ago, the pitches were ALL over the place - WAY outside/high getting called strikes - FOR BOTH teams. Both sides were like, "WTF really?" It was ridiculous. It really favors teams that can hit the long ball who just get 'lucky' which in that case was the Mariners.

You still need the umps. Even home plate umps need to provide new balls, call time, eject dork managers whining about shit (which will drop by like 90% once the strike/balls are computer automated - no arguing with that, Aaron Boone is probably crying in a corner somewhere because he can't get his 5 minutes of fame every game), call plays at the plate, call check swings, HBP, etc.

But yah, enough is enough with balls/strikes by humans. Baseball is one of the slowest sports and easiest to monitor in the World... there's zero reason to have humans checking it. I can excuse human error in sports like NFL where there's 22 guys all in motion and running 4.3/4.4 times and giant piles of people all in a 4-8 second window in most cases. I can't excuse it in baseball..

Looks like the steroid timeframe brought MLB more revenue than the new rule changes. Myself, I’ll continue to watch MLB, no matter what the rules are. I’m a baseball fan. IMG_1882.png

I totally can't recall the last time I've been this excited by a rule change. The current human umpires are like a bunch of kindergarten cops.

There was 4.1 challenges a game in the minors. There is 280-300 pitches in an MLB game.

4.1/280=1.4%/4.1/300=1.36% which is bout the same.

The game isn’t changing that much……..yet. I think we’ll all be disagreeing with some edge calls.

there are definite benefits to this... but there is a few things i question...

1. i have never heard people talking about catcher framing so much than in 2025... this really makes framing and therefore a catcher skill less important

2. baseball fans complain about how batters "look for the walk", this is going to just make those players even more insufferable...

I would still be a huge baseball fan if I could still afford the amount of blow I need to stay awake.

If the robo ump makes the skill of tricking an umpire less important, I'm good with that.
