Wow. R.I.P.

Always thought he was underappreciated. Lived a bit in Gordie's shadow but almost as good of a player, IMO.

Detroit Red Wings' Ted Lindsay dies: A badass on ice, a gentleman off

Sigh. At 93 you know it's coming, but still sucks.
His comeback season was my 3rd yr of hockey fandom. Wings were doing their 4th place dance, sometime in January they took off & wound up in first place that year.

A game with Montreal very late in the season is seared into my memory forever. Wings were 1st in the standings by two points, over the Habs. Game tied 2-2, 15 seconds left, face off in the Wings end. Wings got the face up, got the puck going towards Montreal end. Howe carried the puck in, I always forget whether it was Ullman or Delvecchio, one of them got the puck in the net with 5 seconds left in the game. Olympia could be real loud, I've never heard the noise levels like I did that night. Put them up over Montreal by 4 pts & they held on.

RIP Mr. Lindsay, we loved you.

He had a fine playing career and then took the fight off the ice to establish player's rights in the NHL. Today's players need to thank Ted Lindsay for the rights (and compensation) that they enjoy today.

They just played part of an interview with Gordie where he said Ted was his "protector" out on the ice.

Just... wow

Notes: Red Wings mourn the loss of Ted Lindsay

What a great quote from Mr Ted.
"Mr. Lindsay was at Joe Louis and walked into my office and said, 'What are you doing?'" Blashill said. "I said, 'We're getting ready for training camp, planning the practices' and he said, 'You just tell those players one thing, if they go into the corner with another guy and don't come up with the puck, they're a horse(bleep) hockey player,' and I just thought that kind of embodied his approach to hockey. It was true in the 1950s and it's true today."

I was hoping that's what it was and not a movie ad about that bong using, expletive speaking teddy bear.
