Man, that totally sucks, Him, Bruford, and Phil Collins are my 3 favorite drummers from my four favorite prog bands of all time (Rush, King Crimson, Yes, and Genesis before Gabriel left and they decided a big pile of money was a lot better than creative integrity, which is really hard to argue against).

He had been in poor health for the past three years but I didn't realize he was fighting cancer.

RIP Neil

For my money Greatest Drummer Ever.

That's so subjective though. How do you compare what he did to what Guiliana is doing right now?

Yes its subjective that's why I said " for my money".

Now had I simply said Greatest Ever Drummer, I could see you having an argument.

Not trying to get into an argument. Just hate the whole "best" (not blaming you, the internet is littered with "best" lists) thing when it comes to something like music.

That's fair. Peart is by far my favorite drummer. My No.1 guitarist may not be in your top 10.

Back in the day all the debating of who was the best drummer..and it always came down to f
ive guys in my opinion...
Not in any particular order..you could shuffle these names and still be right.

1. Ginger Baker
2. Keith Moon
3. John Bonham
4. Carl Palmer
5. Neil Peart...
Only Palmer is left.....what a shame...

Its been two days now and the news still sucks. Did any of you guys notice that during both NFL playoffs game yesterday, in the first qtr when they faded to a commercial break, they were playing Rush songs...I appreciated the tribute.

This news hit me hard
Rush is my favorite band and has been since I first heard them back in the 70s

For me Peart was the greatest drummer and one of the greatest lyricists ever - bar none

It feels like a part of me died with his passing

I can't claim to know Palmer well, but in terms of chops, my money is on Peart and it's not close in my mind. All are great in their own way, and I especially like Moon and Bonham, but Peart was the pinnacle for classic rock for me. Man, it hurts typing "was"...:sigh:
