RIP Jack Patera

Not that I'm glad to be old enough to remember seeing our first head coach patrolling the sideline, but I'm thankful to have memories of those early days. RIP, Jack.

Been a tough couple weeks here for the home team.

Jack Patera, first coach in Seahawks history, dies at age 85

I loved Jack. Creative coach at a time when coaches weren't particularly creative. He had to be because the Seahawks didn't have a lot of talent.

I enjoyed the heck out of him.
Creative son of a gun.
Lefty QB in Zorn. A bunch of lost rookies with a few vets splattered in to start out ball club.
We did pretty good as a young franchise.

Yep, some of my fondest memories were those early seasons, and pulling off wild upsets with creative play-calling. I'll ALWAYS remember Efren Herrera with his touchdown. Couldn't find video of that, but here's a catch he made instead.

That play right there is what cemented me as a Seahawk fan. I was not a football fan when I was a pup. I went in the service and was in from `74-`78. Seahawks were activated in `76.
That MNF game at Atl was the 1st NFL game I watched completely. Overtime victory, 31-28 I believe.
Hook my ass big time.
