Sorry for not posting the link. Had a chance to meet him. Good dude. His scratched helmet was the coolest in the league.

Wow. In his day he was a HUGE man. He and Darryl "World" Grant were really good DTs. I know he used to hand carve duck decoys. RIP!!

Dave missed 4 games in a 16 year career .... when men were men. Now guys miss half a year with a hamstring pull. Gary Clark played an entire career with bad hamstrings.

Those Joe Gibbs teams just seemed more mature. Of course you had Dexter, Barry Wilburn, and George Rogers who had their share of demons, but it was the 80s.

Guys like Monk, Clark, Green, Butz, Mann, Milot, the Hogs.....just men, you know what I mean. Hard to explain.

It makes sense. They were a pretty tight bunch after football but Dan blew them off for most of his years and the ones they tried to include those guys they screwed it up.

Joe had those guys pointed in the right direction and working towards a common goal.

I remember John Madden was always enamored with Butz' helmet and how much ground Butz covered. He was certainly a instrumental player during the glory years, was a great teammate and easily coachable. They just don't make them like Dave Butz anymore.
Rest in peace big fella and you were and always will be a great REDSKIN to me.
RIP Dave Butz!
