Sucks, I would have not been surprised if he did it 20 years ago but now it came as a shock.
Good personality, good writer. Someone gave me a compilation of his fiction (mob stories) and it was surprisingly good.

Whenever people ask that "if you could swap lives with anyone, who would it be" I've always said Anthony Bourdain. So cool, so interesting, and what an amazing life he had.

Sorry to hear of his passing and that inner demons were eating at him. One of the best and most original shows on TV.

This one really stings.

Been watching his shows for years.

Never came across as mentally ill or depressed. Maybe he was the sane one in a crazy world.

RIP Chef.

Sorry to hear this, once again noone knows what anyone is going through. Reach out and talk to everyone you know, you don't know you could help that person get through something in their life.

Bourdain actually came to Newfoundland a few weeks back, was great to see him do a show here.

RIP Anthony.

How are you supposed to feel about somebody who kills themselves and leaves his 11 year old daughter fatherless?
Should we isolate that from everything else or should that call into question everything he did & said?

Of the questions I have posted here, I can't think of a harder one to answer than this one.

Just about every suicide can be attributed to mental illness.

So it's pretty easy. You feel the same way you would about a guy who died of cancer leaving his 11 year old daughter fatherless.

I dont think its that hard to reconcile. Depression is a crushing disease of “the self”. The person who suffers from this is enveloped in thinking about themself to the point where they probably think everyone in their life would be better off without them going forward.

So you can call what Bourdain and kate spade (she had a young daughter as well) did selfish but at the same time have some empathy that these 2 were in such a state of mind that they would choose to remove themselves from the lives of people that loved them.

Depression sucks. I used to be skeptical of it until I knew more people who dealt with it.

A few years ago something shifted in me and now it's often a fucking chore to get through the day. I don't know whether it was a physical change or a mental one but suddenly I wasn't comfortable in my own skin anymore. For years I cared about what maybe 5 people thought about me. Now I care what everyone thinks and if it's not good I think something is wrong with me. Throw in a touch of anxiety and a dash of worthlessness and some days are a real suckfest.

Not everyday, but not rare either.

I only know what it's like to be me, I can't tell what battles others are fighting inside. I try, and sometimes fail, to understand and not hate the people that take their own lives.

man it is always interesting to me how someone who lived a life that nearly every person would love and wish to live. Anthony was very cultured and traveled to many places and could tell many stories. This man had lunch with one of the most iconic presidents in U.S history in a local restaurant in Vietnam. It goes to show you cant assume people are living happy lives and are stable.

Mental health is a sickness you can be depressed over anything its a chemical imbalance in the brain. His 11 year old daughter is now fatherless this is very sad
