ICYMI: Rich Tandler appeared on CSN yesterday talking about Gruden's view of our o-line. According to RT, Gruden doesn't share the nearly universal view that our o-line, outside of Trent and Kory, blows chunks. Gruden apparently believes that a lot of the blocking issues last year were attributed to gaffes committed by TEs, running backs and QBs (e.g., holding the ball too long). To be sure, while that's definitely a part of the problem, o-line personnel like Chris Chester and recently departed Tyler Polumbus were the primary culprits. Yet, that's not what Gruden thinks.
This may very well explain why Chris Chester is still on our roster and why we didn't hit the free agent o-linemen as hard as we did for the d-line. I'm not sure if McCloughan concurs with Grudes on this, but he apparently hasn't done much to change personnel, at least not yet. The draft is coming up and Chester may get cut soon enough.
Whatever the case may be, if Gruden really does entertain that view of our o-line, someone better look to see if he's got a glass pipe or two he's hiding in his jacket pockets.
