ICYMI: Rich Tandler appeared on CSN yesterday talking about Gruden's view of our o-line. According to RT, Gruden doesn't share the nearly universal view that our o-line, outside of Trent and Kory, blows chunks. Gruden apparently believes that a lot of the blocking issues last year were attributed to gaffes committed by TEs, running backs and QBs (e.g., holding the ball too long). To be sure, while that's definitely a part of the problem, o-line personnel like Chris Chester and recently departed Tyler Polumbus were the primary culprits. Yet, that's not what Gruden thinks.

This may very well explain why Chris Chester is still on our roster and why we didn't hit the free agent o-linemen as hard as we did for the d-line. I'm not sure if McCloughan concurs with Grudes on this, but he apparently hasn't done much to change personnel, at least not yet. The draft is coming up and Chester may get cut soon enough.

Whatever the case may be, if Gruden really does entertain that view of our o-line, someone better look to see if he's got a glass pipe or two he's hiding in his jacket pockets.

We've heard this before from others who have really broken down the film. I don't see it either, the RT position has been a terrible situation for years now. But there is also no doubt the TE and RBs as well as Griffin were also a major part of the problem.

I've been seeing this viewpoint from Jay crop up in articles of late. Maybe as an ex QB, he sees things quite differently than the rest of us:noidea:

He is correct on blocking failures by non-offensive linemen. People like Niles Paul and Roy Helu couldn't block to save their lives on too many occasions. But what about Lauvao and Chester getting blown up when getting bull rushed into the backfield? And let's not even talk about Polumbus.

We've all wondered why Chester has stuck around so long, especially since cutting him would clear $4M in cap space. Now we may know why.

:burt:

Apparently Jay Gruden has realized the only way he will get rid of RG3 is to get him killed???

OMG Jay is killing me. First retaining Haslett in his first year as coach. Then wanting to keep him despite his horrendous showing without Shanahan "handcuffing" him. At this rate he won't make it to a third year.
