This is really disappointing. I can't understand the reasoning here at all.

I understand it completely.......they're looking for certain particulars from Griffin, if he gives it to them in one sustained drive or it takes an entire quarter to satisfy the coaches one way or the other that is what he'll get. I'm betting that he will not play an entire quarter.

Seeing as how reports are a mixed bag on Griffin, don't see the bonus of not giving him more live reps myself.

Looks like the problem arises from the "mixed bag" of reports on Griffin and not so much from what his coaches are seeing in him.

guess we'll get the fan eye test soon enough. No hiding play on the field.

Honestly - preseason play is not going to show much more than what they see in practice. I have seen too many Redskins preseason games in the recent past (where certain players appear to look very good) to get excited or put much stock in what occurs during these games. The only true tests will start in week 1 of the regular season.

While I agree that there is no substitute for the regular season especially as you've stated with the appearance of good play. However what about the opposite side of that coin where our players are getting beat-up and bullied at the LOS.......or........like a season ago opposing pass catchers are extremely wide open in our secondary, still no concerns?

Don't get me wrong - a lot of the younger players can use the experience & it provides some good feedback for the coaches. However - in terms of QB play I really don't think it means all that much. Also - it certainly won't excite me much if say RG3 or Cousins lights up the field at times in preseason. I have seen that movie one too many times to get overly excited. The only proof that either of these guys has improved significantly will be during the regular season. Everything else is just material for the media & forums such as this one.

socal generally i would agree with you on this however i think we have a special case here . Rg3 was so incompetent playing the position of qb that you could see vs the ravens he wasnt "up " to the job .

i think you can tell if he is taking the correct drop . i think you can see if he can make basic reads . i think you can see if he still has issues with mechanics .

but you have to take that with a grain of salt and understand if its positive that it isnt the end all be all . if its negative then you can have concerns , but again dont let it go past the real meaning ( bad game ?)

its valuable to a point but lets not blow it out of proportion

Winning or losing in the pre-season doesn’t matter. But it’s a great opportunity for players to prepare for the upcoming season. One player in particular that needs to shine this pre-season is QB Robert Griffin III.

Head Coach Jay Gruden says Griffin could play at least a quarter Thursday. “I would think at least a quarter right now, just off the top of my head, but we’ll see,” said Gruden. “Could be longer. Just depends on how many plays you get. We’ll probably have a pitch count on him and go from there.”

One thing is for sure, Robert Griffin III needs all the “pitches” he can get this pre-season. In the past, he’s done very little in pre-season and that has to change. Griffin was protected from too much playtime his rookie year, he didn’t play in 2013 after his injury and in 2014 he barely threw the football. That has to change.

I did a very small study on a few Quarterbacks to compare their pre-season passing attempts to Griffin. The results were alarming. I choose Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers for a reason. One of those QBs will forever be linked to Griffin; the other is old, yet an all-time great (plus was coming off an injury in 2012); and Rodgers is Rodgers.

*Note: Both Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck had more attempts in just one pre-season than Griffin has in his pre-season career total.

The Redskins need to balance getting ready for the opener and taking care of some starters who don’t need the same amount of preseason reps, such as left tackle Trent Williams or nose tackle Terrance Knighton. However, the Redskins have a new offensive line coach, two new starters on the right side of the line and several new starters defensively. But Gruden sounded as if the offense needed more work.

"We have to get them back in the flow of playing football against a live pass rush," Gruden said. "Our whole offense needs to do that, come off the football. Our running backs need to work on their ball security and hitting the new running lanes and the plays that we have and get some good practice. We have got a new line coach and some new schemes going on both offensively and defensively and we need to work.”

But quarterback Robert Griffin III could use as much work as possible. Last summer he attempted only 20 passes in the preseason – 34 fewer than Kirk Cousins and 24 fewer than Colt McCoy. The offense then managed only six points in the season opener vs. Houston.

Agree. I guess that my my pt is that if any of the QBs look good it won't mean much to me (& hope I am wrong w/ this opinion). Oh well - this is part of our conditioning as Redskins fans - expect the worst at all times. Hopefully the current regime gets us out of this mindset in the next few years.
