I just heard the bad news on MLB Network. He was 84.
On a personal note, I had the pleasure of talking to him on several occasions. He was a great teammate. He had a huge impact on the current Cardinal pitchers.
Just look at his 1968 stat line: 22-9, 1.12 ERA. How did anyone beat this guy that season? They lowered the mound from 15" to 10" pretty much because of this guy.
Rest in Peace, Sir.

You seem angry. Miserable, even.

Bob Gibson was my first baseball idol. 1967 World Series was my first serious baseball watch as a 11 year old.

3-0.
27 innings.
An ERA of 1.
26 strikeouts.

Hell yes, I thought he was the best pitcher I’ve ever seen. Still do.

In the sixties the Phillies could get nowhere when Gibson was pitching. He usually shut them out or limited them to one run and was a big reason why the Cards won the 1964 pennant after overtaking the Phils who lost the last 10 of 12 games of the season. A truly dominating pitcher.
