I don't think anyone is saying we don't want Reed, just that he is a below average blocker. The team needs him but it also needs him to improve that part of his game. Remember the holding calls that stopped drives? Remember missed blocks that caused runs not to work? Of course at the same time he was one of the very best receiving TEs in the games and you can't discount 11 TD receptions and that is in 14 games.

I certainly wasn't insinuating the team didn't want Reed, I was merely stating he is already a top TE in the league and to pay him. I remember every holding penalty and every missed block by Reed however, his stands out because of the impact he has on a game. Every other player on the team holds, draws penalty's etc...just not as noticeable I guess. Reed is likely our most valuable player currently on the roster even in light of his blocking deficiencies and ultimately will get paid by the Skins if not by some other team. I just don't see us letting him get away.

Chiefs signed TE Travis Kelce to a five-year, $46 million extension.

It's been a good week for Zeus. First he landed a reality dating show on E! Now he's the NFL's second highest-paid tight end behind only Jimmy Graham. Kelce has emerged as a huge weapon for Kansas City, hauling in 1,737 yards and 10 touchdowns over his last two seasons. He's been a model of consistency, as his stats from 2015 were almost identical to the ones he posted a year earlier. The deal comes with $20.5 million guaranteed and will keep Kelce in a Chiefs uniform through 2021.

This is what Reed is worth. But I think Reed is better than Kelce. Kelce got more than Julius Thomas. Wow!!

Reed is a better receiving threat than Kelce (not that Kelce is a slouch in this area at all), not necessarily a better all around TE. First, Jordan has yet to play a full season since high school. He has a history of injuries. There isn't yet any reason to expect that to change. Second, Kelce is a much more effective blocker. Finally, Reed has twice as many penalties as Kelce, many of which were drive killers in critical situations. I do expect Reed to improve in the last two areas as he becomes more experienced. The history of injuries concern me.

but you are correct, this is the type of deal Reed will command when they go to extend him. It may not be this year, however. My guess is SM would like to see another year to see how he develops in his weaker areas. This is a gamble in that if Reed improves, that value only goes up, as it should. But if he again misses games to nagging injury or continues to commit mental gaffes that kills drives, he will not be paid as one of the best.

Reed is just not a blocker and never will be. He is a top Receiving TE in football and those guys get paid. Where have you seen a blocking TE get paid? As far as injuries, you can say that about any player. Look at Gronk. You cant forecast injuries. Look at what the Eagles gave Ertz after basically one month of good play. If it was me I would try to get Reed done now. If you are going to say the concussions or the injures as issues for not extending him then you my as well just trade him now. One of the big reasons why KC and offense succeeded is b/c of Reed. It will be cheaper to do it this year rather than next year.

Blocking TE that got paid? Sure...Witten. Of course he is much more than a blocking TE. There are others (like Kelce). The point is if Jordan wants to be paid as the best, he has areas that he has to improve in. Another reason why SM may wait to negotiate with Reed is just due to the multitude of others on the team that are FAs this year and need to be dealt with. As I said, this may be a risk, but SM may have no choice.

Witten was a huge receiving threat years back. SM runs the risk of actually losing Reed next year if he doesn't lock him up this year. Reed is not going to be paid like Graham but should get a Kelce like deal. You can make the argument that Reed is the most important player on offense(other than KC)and you want to risk loosing him? No way. Playing with fire here jy19. Can't get too cute here.

Do you actually read what others write before you respond?

I've already explained why SM might wait. I'm not saying he will or that I think he should, only the rationale behind why he may.

Potentially. That's not cast in stone. I realize you think Reed is already one of the best TEs in the league, but others would disagree. After all, he didn't even make the PB. He has holes in his game that has hurt the team.

Reed should of made the pro bowl over Kelce. elite receiving TE's get paid and Reed is an elite receiving TE. How is Reed not a top 5 TE in this league? Who disagrees?

IMO its Gronk then a big gap and then Reed, Olsen, and Eifert then another gap.
