Please DO NOT issue Blackshirts this week. I beg you.

Either get back to issueing 11 of them to start the season or scrap the tradition all together.

Handing them out AFTER the season is already in progress is BAD LUCK and nothing more than another distraction.

Good points. Giving them out during the season just begs for media attention and the distraction all that will come with it. If they must give them out, do it before an easy game like Minnesota so it won't matter about the media distractions en sech.

Don't even give them out then.

Either give out 11 to begin the season and provide the dual motivation for the starters to keep them and the back-ups to work harder, or scrap the program completely.

Pelini in his stubbornness has ruined NU's defense. It's a discombobbulated, amalgamated, clusterfuck.

FUCK YOU BO for making mockery of an honored NU tradition!!!!!

Why is this defense burning through all of the time-outs game after game after game?

Are they not prepared?

I'm tired of these fucking defensive time-outs.

NU is gonna get into a game where the offense needs one and they won't be available for Taylor.

:noidea:

It's frustrating for sure to be using all our timeouts on defense.

Only a 'moran' would think calling timeout with :39 seconds left in the half with your opponent on 3rd and 11 in your territory was to preserve time. In fact JJM even complained about NU taking a knee to end the half.

The other D timeout was in the 1st Q

I don't remember what the 3rd was for (if NU even used it). I'll let you know when I re-watch the game later.

Stick to recruiting and rumors sir. Let the rest of us handle factual analysis.

I'm not saying they are unnecessary. They are.

My problem lies in that.

They are taken at important times to get the defense on the same page. To eliminate assignment confusion, generally at desperate times. Often, they are for not. You don't see top tier defenses doing that. Timeouts are generally conserved for potential 2 minute drills.

Is Bo's defense too damn complicated for this level of football, or is it further amendment to player discipline/attention to detail issues?

There has been a pattern developed over the seasons.

I'm grateful NU hung in there and had just enough to win by 3 last night. A win is a win and that took "discipline". But being down by 17 was due to a lack of it.

I have said that before. I am no defensive guru but I do think he makes it more complicated then necessary.

Pelini talks about fundamentals and execution being what is necessary to win every game but then they spend the week at practice getting the "look" of the team we will be playing. Then our defense goes out there and there is a shift or they line up in a "look" they didn't see in practice and chaos ensues. Hands up in the air and players running around with no idea who their responsibility is.

I will say though that Papuchis did a good job 2nd half. I just hate to see the confusion out there.

I'll have to pay attention when I rewatch, but I remember the announcers talking twice about how Bo runs his defense play-by-play.

I thought, for it being that intricate, it's not very effective. They've given up some big points at times. They're pretty good with their backs to the wall, but so are most defenses. The field shortens up leaving less option for offenses.

I was disappointed that Wisky ran well on them (2 TD's) when they had the short field a couple of times.

I also miss having a defense that creates turnovers. There were at least 2 dropped INT's last night, one complete miss when the DB wasn't looking for the ball and got a PI instead. NU doesn't strip the ball well either.
