I doubt he gets a 17 year deal. He is old as it is and will probably retire after this season. If the contract was front-loaded the NHL would probably reject it after Kovalchuk's contract was.

Interesting.. I heard a "respected" Michigan hockey journalist say he was going to sign this week, but I just brushed it off. Maybe there were some truth to the rumours. Well, all we can do is wait now, I guess. I can't imagine if they're bringing in another forward that Meech is the odd man out. I guess it'll probably be Ritola.

It's been a major struggle for them to get their average age up ever since Chelios left the team. This will help, but their defense is dangerously close to averaging 30.
