It's going to be a long, cold winter...

Tom Renney was in a foul mood after losing on Tuesday night, and he was more than willing to let his players and the media know about it.

The Edmonton Oilers' bench boss let loose after his club was shut down 5-0 on the road by the Phoenix Coyotes.

"I'm not happy, flat out, not happy, it's a joke," Renney told reporters after the defeat. "We win a game, and we figure we're going to be hoisting the Cup or something.

Renney was referencing Edmonton's 4-2 win in Anaheim on Sunday, which snapped the Oilers' six-game losing streak and a stretch where the team was outscored 34-11.

"The battle level was non-existent tonight (in Phoenix)," Renney continued. "The pride in the jersey was not at the level it needed to be. It was an absolute joke, a travesty."

The Oilers have five wins in 20 starts this season, and currently rank last in the league in both goals allowed (79) and penalty-kill percentage (67.9%).

"Our starts should begin in the morning when you come to the morning skate," said Renney. "You have a night to take breather (after a win) and then the next day, it's game day, no matter what time of day it is, it's game day."

Renney's words did not fall on deaf ears in the Edmonton locker room.

"Some guys want it to be easy, but this is the best league in the world. It's never going to be easy," forward Sam Gagner told the Associated Press after the game. "We think after one (win) that it's going to be easy and we forget how hard it was to get that win."

"At the beginning of the day, say what you will, it's turnovers that cost us a hockey game," said Renney. "It's an immature approach, it's outside the team structure without a doubt. Until guys grow up and take responsibility for their performance with and without the puck, we're going to have more nights like this."

its probably just me but renneys rants seem rehearsed/staged to me (rehearsed is probably not the right word because all coaches use the post game media platform to send messages to their players) ... when hes supposedly angry he still looks calm/restrained to me ... of course, could be different in the lockerroom ... but to me he's never come across as a leader of men

with a guy like Pat Quinn, when he ranted last year you thought he was gonna either drop fbombs or drop dead from a heart attack

I dont know if its the glasses on renney or the act he pulled with the canucks trying to stop beer from being served on flights, but I just dont see him as a hard ass

I think about him every time people bitch about Kunitz. I'll take ten Kunitzes over one Ryan Whitney.

Good for Renney, but I don't think it's going to help much.

The Oilers and Flames both need new GMs, as a Flames fan, I hope Kevin Lowe and Steve Tambellini stay on as long as possible, but Darryl Sutter needs to ride off into the sunset.

Very refreshing. It would have been nice to hear Scott Gordon say similar things. Of course he probably would have been fired afterward. Now he's been moved upstairs. The GAG order is in full effect in L.I..

- Sharks after every loss this season.....and even some of the wins.....

Either Tom Renney does some very advanced scouting on the Sharks, or he's just being an ass to Team Teal.
