For me, Bedard is the 'mascot' of those series of player acquisition whiffs that defined those inept teams that immediately followed the Mariners golden era 1995-2003.
Jeff Cirillo - I was actually excited about this trade. He was coming off of a 17 homer/83 RBI season with the Rockies and a 112 OPS. But he quickly became a long running joke in Seattle.
Scott Spiezio - Was going to be our solution at first base. Coming off an 83 RBI with the Angels. Tanked with the Mariners with a .215 BA and 67 OPS.
Rich Aurilia - Already in career decline when he arrived. Only lasted 70 games before he was traded.
Randy Winn - Actually had a good run here but ran out of steam in his third year and was traded to the Giants. Closed the season with a massive run for the Giants.
Richie Sexson - Two good years but at 6'7" with a long swing and poor training habits, he was destined for early career decline.
Adrian Beltre - Rode a roids-influenced MVP runner up season to a fat contract with the Mariners but he clearly needed a hitters park to achieve HOF stats.
Jeremy Reed - We gave up Freddie Garcia for this highly rated but untested kid prospect. Never panned out.
Carl Everett - LOL. Yeah, whatever.
Jarrod Washburn - Contract the Ms gave him, at the time, was ridiculously high. He was always mediocre with the Angels and remained mediocre here despite making #2-type money.
Jose Vidro - we got him at the end of his playing career. He was okay for a middle infielder but his days of being a run producer in Montreal were long behind him
Jeff Weaver - LOL again. Hard to believe this guy actually threw two complete game shutouts for the Ms.
Miguel Batista - He won 16 games for the Mariners in 2007. How is that possible? Followed it up going 4-14 in 2008.
Jose Guillen - He had one of the best years of his career his one year in Seattle but of course we failed to re-sign him.
And, finally, Mr Attitude, Erik Bedard. If Varitek and Lowe for Slocumb was the worst trade in Mariner history, this one is a very close second. We gave up Chris Tillman and Adam Jones to acquire him. Bedard went 15-14 across 46 starts spanning 4 years and was finally traded to the Red Sox.

The Reed one kind of hurts. Cause he looked so good in his September call up, and wasn’t Michael Morse apart of that deal? The dude that once he left he went off

Yep, Mike Morse was in it too. Morse showed promise as a Mariner but couldn't stay healthy. He was eventually traded to the Nats for the immortal Ryan Langerhans. Morse had one solid season with Washington and a couple of other decent ones, was traded back to the Mariners, started off great and then was KOed by injuries. Eventually traded a second time, this time to the Orioles.

Oh, I thought he went off with the Nats. I’m getting old so my memory may be shot. But I do remember thinking Reed was going to be a star from those 20 games or whatever it was
