Lest we forget, well before draft day there will be the free agency period. I know after today's crazy situation which resulted in our boys ending the season with the #1 pick, Bears fans everywhere, including me, have been getting all hyped up over the possibilities and ramifications of owning this pick.
But what will shape the direction Poles takes to a large degree on draft day are the prior actions taken during free agency. And as blessed as we are with the #1, we're just as blessed, if not more so, with that huge amount of cap space. Who he signs and at which positions could alter who he might otherwise take with the #1 or perhaps further cement the option of trading the pick for a bundle. It's nice to be thinking what we can do with that 1st pick, but no doubt how Poles will handle free agency at this point carries a lot more weight.
