Redskins waived ILB Steven Daniels, LB Rufus Johnson, C Quinton Schooley and WR Reggie Diggs.

A 2016 seventh-round pick, Daniels missed his entire rookie year with a shoulder injury. Already 24, he's up against it to carve out an NFL career.

When Carter signed along with Brown, I saw that coming. I think Spaight is in real trouble too.

Yeah I was looking out for Spaight last year but when he got his chance he was terrible. You can't blame the GM when a 7th rounder fails but as I said before when we look back years from now I think we will see that SM's hit rate on draft picks and FAs was far below average.

Just one more smart guy who got to Ashburn and turned dumb.

I think Scot was good. Perfect, no, but I think we are a much better team now than we were two years ago. Where he will be missed the most is his ability to sign free agents that no one else wants and have them come in here and contribute.

It just seemed that there was finally an adult in the room. It was nice to know that we had a football guy making football decisions again. We've really only had that twice since Gibbs ran Bethard off.

Mike and Scot. Mike gave us Trent, Cousins, Reed, Morris, Garçon, etc. Scot gave us Scherff, to an extent Crowder, Cravens, and Allen plus Anderson if you believe they followed his board.

Gibbs gave up picks to get Jason Campbell, signed Brunell. Dan gave up picks to get RG3 and we all know his history in free agency.

Cerrato was responsible for the Kelly, Tomas, and Davis draft.

Now that free agency is over and they signed Scot's guys and now that the draft is over and they drafted Scot's guys, we will see.

Remember Scot wanted to sign Kirk two years ago, but Dan and Bruce didn't. Dan and Bruce were the one's that held 15 million of our cap space hostage because they could not or would not let go of the guy the "knows his why."

Think we cold have used that money that year? Me too. There are bigger crimes than a 5th round special teams linebacker getting cut a coupleasure of years later. Jmo

i dont know who in the world was bettter then spaight or daniels at the time but a suspect very few

he got to draft a mere 2 classes and if you dont know by now that all gms and coaches miss then you wont ever

do i need to go through the draft picks of beathard ? gibbs ? BB ?

My feeling on SM are well known, still bitter he is no longer here. But in 2 seasons all he added was Scherff (at the cost of the 5th pick in the draft) and Crowder at this point. Cravens is still unproven and his free agents were far more misses than hit. Giving him credit for Jonathan Allen is a real reach.

So Josh Norman doesn't count? We'll see what Doctson has this year. Vernon Davis sure was been a nice addition.

I never said he didn't count, said "far more misses than hits. And don't forget Norman fell into his lap, SM didn't huddle up and make a plan to target Josh Norman in February. He was released unexpectedly when most teams had used up their cap space, SM got lucky. Here's his record, just not a lot of help from this group.

The Good:

Norman with an *
Vernon Davis
Tye Nsekhe

OK

RJF
Will Blackman

The Bad:

Steven Pae
Jeron Johnson
Terrance Knighton
Chris Culliver (it wasn't all injury)
David Bruton
Kendall Reyes
Cullen Jenkins

The Meh. Signed for little, did nothing, didn't help

Greg Toller
Terrance Givens
Michael Hill (who?)
Jerrell Powell

I'd put Cousins in the good, because - even though he didn't pick him - he set the stage for him to play and excell. There's more to being a GM than their picks and signings.

Cullen Jenkins cost chump change. And Knighton looked like a very good deal at first. I'd take away the asterisk for Norman - Every other team had the same opportunity to get him, so he certainly wasn't handed to the Skins.

But none of those guys busted the cap like the days of old. Gone are the days of trading picks for Jason Taylor, Donovan McNabb, and the right tackle from the Saints that couldon't get on the field.

Mason Foster, Dunbar, Robert Kelley, I could go on but don't have the roster in front of me. Time will tell, I don't want to root against Bruce and Dan. I'm pulling for them. I just think Scot will be missed. You make valid points. His free agency was not good. Like I said though, aside from Culliver, nothing really hurt us. We had 10 picks this year because of Scot. Remember the days when we'd have maybe a 2nd, 4th, 5th and maybe a 6th. We were pointing up. I just hope we can continue in that direction.

Yeah not sure how I missed Foster. And I'm not sure where to put him, I guess in the "OK" column but he sure isn't a "hit. But this is the thing, of course the bad signings "hurt us". Just because they weren't Albert Haynesworth bad does not mean they weren't bad.

They didn't perform, costing us games. They weren't expensive individually but collectively it left us with I believe one of the highest if not the highest dead cap figure in the league. And of course they left us with the same holes to be filled.

With all that said as you know I'm still upset that he is gone, I still had faith in him. It's just that because of this faith posters are unwilling or unable to admit his 2 years here weren't all that. At least not to date.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong - probably by a lot - and misleading if it's somehow not wrong. The Skins had 10 mil in dead cap, and less than half of that was from SM signings.

It was posted here a while ago, I'm too lazy to find the link. But look at that list of players they released after only a year. They were smart with Culliver and got out with little damage. But there is a lot of other names on that list and obviously they resulted in dead cap space.

Before SM...we sucked and expected 2-6 wins.

After SM, we expect to be in the hunt every season.

Heh. The hunt for what? There were some slight chances, but basically we're right where we always are. Sure, the Skins had a winning record last year, barely, but we've seen this movie before.

Surprise winner of the NFC East one year, back to or near the NFC East cellar the next and this wass another change as the Skins finished in 3rd place instead last place.

Not feeling the loss right now as far as personnel goes. What impact he had on the team otherwise remains to be seen.

There are 5 teams with more dead cap room. NFL 2017 Cap Tracker The Skins had a little less than 10 mil - and considering that cap's around 167 mil, that's not a bid deal. Included in the Skins number is over a mil for Jackson - even though he left as a UFA - and over a mil for RJF - who was cut because he spoke up. Overall, I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

In the hunt for me being able to watch the skins without wanting to take both shoes off and throwing them through the television and the computer screen.

Good thing I have only 2 feet. (That's what she said)

He's been here 2 years, and the Skins have been watchable. Given his background, it's hard to conclude that's a coincidence.
