John heyman just reported that Reds are trying to work something out with SF for Pence to become a Red. This would be a huge move, Pence gots a pretty good bat and is a pretty good player overall.

Hard to think they would make that move considering Ludwick will be back next week

He looks like such a fool at the plate with all that movement and those absurd hip socks of his.

Pence is a player. But who do you sit when Ludwick comes back?

A fool that hits 25 HR, .280 average, and an .800 OPS every year.

You exaggerated all those numbers and didn't mention that he's on the hook for $16M next year and the Giants aren't interested in extending him. The Reds aren't willing to pay that for a negligible upgrade over Ludwick.

Nope. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pencehu01.shtml

I didn't say the Reds should trade for him....like the feller above said, Ludwick returns soon and will essentially provide the same production. I'm just pointing out that even though he may look like a schmuck, he's a decent ball-player.

Ludwick would be Pence backup. We none know how Ludwick is gonna play when he does return. Making this trade would definitely give us a right handed bat we can rely on.

He's not worth $16M and prospects. :2cents: If he were, the Giants would have already extended him and wouldn't be dangling him as trade bait.

Despite his piss poor production as of late and general physical quirkiness, we'd (SF fans) hate to lose him because he's such a positive presence in the clubhouse. But money talks and he's probably the only one outside the "untouchables" with any value right now.

Timmy's spot on impression :laugh3:

I'm skeptical. No one is going to pay Ludwick the money he's due next year, except the Reds. They sure aren't going to sign a $16 mil guy like Pence, and pay Ludwick to sit...and even if Choo is a free agent, neither Bruce, Ludwick or Pence is a CF. Id like to see Pence on this team, but not if it means paying him , giving up 2-4 prospects and/ or eating Ludwick's ridiculous salary next year.

They think it's funny. I change the channel when that idiot is at the plate. If foreigners who don't understand baseball see that, they'll never watch it again.

Heyman is known to make up stories and quote "rival GMs" as proof.
I wouldn't count on much that he produces. He's after clickthroughs, not facts.

Word.

Ludwick is going to help this offense.

Pence would too, but they're pretty much redundant players.

And as a side note, Derrick Robinson sucks. Anybody who thinks that Ludwick isn't an improvement over him or Heisey for that matter is smoking something.

Need a sweep this week before heading home to face the struggling Cards!

Ludwick is making $6 or $7 mil next year.

That salary, relatively speaking, is not ridiculous.

Why you're so down on Ludwick is mind boggling, especially considering you were so high on Volquez who has been nothing but shit in all but one half of one season in his entire career.

Ludwick had an excellent season in 2012, and is quite capable of repeating that season if healthy.

Edinson is such a mental child that I predict he doesn't escape the third inning tomorrow night.

Great natural stuff, but yeah...an uncoachable moron.

He's far more likely to throw 4 balls before he throws 3 strikes to every hitter he faces.

Wow- Dont remeber EVER being high on Volquez- I accused him of BEING HIGH.

I believe Luddy's money went like this 2012- $3 mil, $2103- $9 mil.

He aint cheap anymore. ..not cheap enough to platoon, anyway.

I'd love Ludwick to repeat a good season, but hes 34 and has only repeated good seasons a couple of times.
