So, we all know one class does not make or break a team but it is 4-5 classes combined that build a team up most. So... what have we done the past four classes on each platform? Here you go:

247Sports Composite
2017 - 23
2016 - 24
2015 - 30
2014 - 36
Average: 28th

247Sports

2017 - 23
2016 - 24
2015 - 29
2014 - 33
Average: 27th

Rivals

2017 - 20
2016 - 26
2015 - 28
2014 - 32
Average: 26.5th

Scout

2017 - 18
2016 - 28
2015 - 33
2014 - 34
Average: 28th

ESPN

2017 - 21
2016 - 26
2015 - 31
2014 - 39
Average: 29th

The most encouraging take away from this for me is the fact that we have improved every year since 2014 in recruiting rank culminating in a consensus Top 25 class this cycle. If we can keep improving (and the number of big names we are in on for 2018 says that is a distinct possibility) we could be signing a Top 10 class in the near future.

I heard a stat today that in terms of per player average it was the best class, in that regard, in a decade

yep, maybe even longer if depending on what service you go by. To get into the Top 25, let alone Top 20 (Scout) with only 20 signees is pretty good.

Nebraska used to not go after the better players and focused on the diamonds in the rough.

Riley and company go toe to toe with the best of them. If the players that chose USC over nebraska on signing day had selected Nebraska think where that would have put Nebraska.

Basically, the previous coaching staff did not understand recruiting or was afraid of recruiting or actually disliked meeting young men and their families and schmoozing with them.

I have a feeling the 2018 class is going to be incredible.

I'm calling it now. Possible top 10 class in 2018.

We're gonna get a 5-star in this class.

My predictions....

5-star: 1
4-star: 12
And then whatever amount of other stars to fill out the class.

@Jack_John_Mark member that comprehensive thread I made back in thee day essentially hashing all this out and including the averages through 5 years of every national title team from '04 on?

The lowest average was 11.5 through five years I think and that was Auburn when they had Cam.

Wish I could find that.

I sent that to Mike'l Severe and they did a 15 minute segment on my data on USC.

Basically from like'04 through '13 if you didn't have a 5 year average below 11.5, you weren't winning a national title. I haven't looked at the last couple years but I guarantee it's still true.

You just don't have a chance.

Yes I do.

It is a simple fact that you will not win a Natty with 3 star players.

We won't have a class of 15. We haven't even let this year's attrition happen, let alone next year's.

Should we take guys just to take them, or save those scholarships for next year when we will be more limited with regard to numbers?
seems to be a common excuse for striking out and not having a plan B, if I had to guess I'd say they weren't Saving ships for next years small class
