If it comes from a wine bottle, it's a cork. Plastic floats are bobbers.

dagnabbit, have you caught any fish on your attempts, if so what? Have you caught any eaters, or mounters or just used a lot of insect repellent? Inquiring minds want to know.

I wanna get into fishing more.........

But im having a hard time learning things.

Like what bait to use, how deep to let the bait drop........bobber vs no bobber......lure jig etc

how in the heck do you learn this stuff.........anyone know some resources

You fishing in fresh or salt water? Just got back from Florida and caught 5 of these black tip sharks. Not big, all about 28-32 inches. Used finger mullet I bought at the bait shop for some and caught some with a cast net.

Caught mullet with the cast net, not the sharks

They look like they put up quite a tussle for their size.

What exactly do you do with the shark? Eat it?

I do. Black tips and lemon sharks eat pretty good. The only problem is catching one big enough to keep. They have to be 54".
Holy shit. That's a big ass fish. That would feed you for a year. Do you just do steaks or do you fillet that?

I do both. I'll cut some steaks and then I'll cut some into bite size chunks so that I can bread it and fry it later.

Bonnet heads eat pretty good too.

How much meat do you generally get out of one? Does it freeze well?

Yea, they freeze fine, at least the chunks do. If I cut steaks, they go on the grill that evening or the next day. I haven't frozen the steaks yet. I don't see where it would be a problem though.

I usually package the meat in 1 qt storage containers and I'll get anywhere from 6-10 containers full or more depending on the size of the fish, of course.

I haven't caught anything over 80 lbs yet, but I just started targeting sharks last summer. I was never that interested in them until I ate some and found out you could troll for them behind the shrimp boats. Lots of fun when the drag starts singing and you're clearing lines and moving rods because one of them is going off.

Lemon Shark

I'd love to go shark fishing. A little harder to do in Michigan. The ocean is a whole different animal. I've been deep sea fishing a few times but I've always wanted to do some shallow reef fishing. I think if I lived by an ocean and had a boat, I would have a hard time spending any time off of it. So much crap to catch in the ocean.

So true. And you don't really have to try too hard. We catch lots of trout and spot tails (reds). But you can also go after king mackerel or spanish mackerel or flounder, grouper, mahi, black sea bass, sheepshead, etc. And all you really need is a bottom rig (steel leader and lead) and a piece of shrimp or mullet or any cut bait to catch 'em.
