I may be just another grumpy assed old man but I agree with @4down20 on his line of thinking. Lists and rankings are subjective. What are the parameters for the list? For illustration, in 2013 Nick Marshall was our QB(I know, not a freshman and not the point) and possessed none of the throwing ability that Mr. Lawrence possesses. Now how do you think of him … a great quarterback in that system and I would argue about the only one that would get us into the BCSNCG. He led the NCAA record for single season turn around. Put a more talented pro style QB in and the offence falls apart.

Don't get me wrong, Trevor Lawrence is insanely talented and appears to be a very decent man from afar. He appears to be able to elevate the play of the players around him. Most of that ability comes from prep work leading to great decision making. The only limits I see for him would be in the form of injury or self imposed limits. I hope he avoids injuries and reaches his goals.

Clemson's receivers were just incredible. A lot of youngin's could deliver the ball to proximity like he did, but the receivers were just batshit crazy talented.

That said, the kid didn't do stupid things and ran the offense all over Bama. Obviously, he's one of the GOATs at this tender age. Does he have great arm strength doe? It seemed like he really had to chuck a few to get some distance and velocity. Maybe his arm will become more lively?

If he could flick his wrist and send it 30 yards like a bullet, like Farve, there'd be no question.

Sure.

Dude led blowout after blowout and finished with 30 TD and 4 picks at 65%.

I had the pleasure of being a season ticket holder and watching his entire redshirt freshman QB as he led VT to the BCSNCG, what an awesome experience that was. He was before his time, offenses back then weren't built around a QB of his skillset. Most of what he did was adlibbed as there was no spread offenses. His athleticism was off the charts and best football player I've ever seen in person. The athletes and game have gotten even better since then, but for his era he was the best there ever was IMO.
From what I've seen, Allen Iverson could've been Michael Vick before Michael Vick. His football highlights were unreal.

Does he have great arm strength doe?

I heard in passing during a game this year that he'd been clocked at 60mph for pass velocity. There was no graphic to back that up - just conversation between commentators.

That's Mahomes level power, begrudgingly - I think DW4 was clocked at 45 at the combine.

Maturity comes in fits and starts...and depends mostly on surroundings and the people. I think how perfect he looked under the pressure of the NCG says as much about his corch as the program as him.

It also says something about Tua and Bama.

Yup. He was a Virginia guy too where Vick was from. Prolly just too small and went basketball but I remember watching his high school football highlights too.

There was a time, maybe 1972 or so, that freshman could NOT play varsity football.

So, any freshman would have to have played after that.

Then, it took a few years for the coaches to let the Freshman play as QBs.
ISnt that the whole "we are marshall" movie/story

That reminds me of a girl I knew in HS but her thing was crying and Wanking dudes.

Well somebody asked what us old timers say , and I can tell you that freshmen didn't even get to dress , much less play .

but I think he will be a good one , if they keep the rat poison away from him ., That's what happened to Tua , ESPN

fed him rat poison , along with the rest of the experts .

Jamelle Holieway still the only true freshman to start and end the season and win a national title.

This is the one I thought of that was comparable . Obviously different type of QB but the OP didn't specify "passing " QB
