Should we get back to running the Zone Read Option? To me we should go back to what we did to win the NFC East.

This really is one of the main reason why our Off is struggling. RG3 running really opens up the Off.
Kyle reluctancy to have RG3 running on the read option has really caused the opposing Def to not worry about RG3 running because of his knee. We can expect Lions to follow the same pattern that is blitzing right up the middle. We need to have some continuity in the running game this will help alot.

We do not have to run it a lot, but yes it needs to be part of our game. The D for the other team knows that we are not going to run him so they can jump the running back and our offense looks so stagnant in the first half of games. Once they get a lead they back down and we get into rhythm, but by then it is too late.

Agree..it is terribly obvious that Griffin's potential as a runner keeps the defense on their heels and to an extent opens everything else up. Without that threat this offense will struggle to keep up (since the defense is not playing well).

I assumed it would take a couple weeks for the offense to get going but what I didn't expect was this awful Defense! Now I know the eagles new up tempo O was tough out of the gate and Rodgers is Rodgers and is going to get his numbers but the thought of Megatron coming in here next week is a scary thought. He might have 300 yards receiving and 5 TDs at the rate the D is playing. And hopefully Suh doesn't do something stupid as well.( accidentally of course because he's such a great guy off the field I'm told)

Griffin's ability to run last season created more options on offense, our O-Line is good but not great, also they're built for zone block, other than Williams, they aren't very good and pass protection, Montgomery was a joke yesterday, GB handled him like a little bitch, Griffin is very good out of the pocket if given the time and once he gets his zip back on the ball which he will, my biggest concern is the defense, our DB's are awful, safeties suck, Merriweather needs to retire, the guy would get hurt in a flag football game....we need to really go after some linemen on both sides of the ball and LB's in FA and the draft next season, we really need to trade for more draft picks too...

I say no. This will hopefully help RG3 in developing as a pocket passer. He has a great arm and is accurate so he can succeed with less zone reads. As he gets healthier they can go back to it more often.

The problem there is that we dont have the O-line to run a drop back passing system. Because of the way the team is built, we have to run a bunch of roll outs and read option type stuff. Because straight up, our line gets abused. If we continue to try and force the pocket passer stuff right now, Kirk Cousins will be starting by mid season. And believe me, I was really hoping we could develop away from reliance on the read option. But right now its not going to happen.

THIS.

IMO the Oline a MAJOR concern. Need a new RT, LG and maybe even C. They have all been BULLIED so far this year. meanwhile Trent has graded out as the best tackle in the L by PFF.... get that man some help

The alternative of having RG3 be less able to avoid read option hits while he continues to improve is less appealing to me. Our defense is getting abused so badly right now that I would right the first few games off as preseason anyway.
Let RG3 get healthy before we start letting him loose.

Why do people keep saying he is not healthy? He runs well, looks good once he gets into rhythm. I think he is ready to take on the hits, but he is learning to get out of bounds. Let that learning curve grow so that we can control the game better. When our offense maintains the ball our defense has a better chance of making changes and fixing the problems in the game. If we do not let RG3 loose soon it will be next year that we start to talk about. I do not want to rely on winning the last 7 games again this year to get into the playoffs.

I believe that he is completely healthy physically. However - as Rodney Harrison alluded to last night - there is a mental aspect to this. Players are just going to be somewhat hesitant for a while after coming back from this type of injury (especially in RG3's case where this has occurred twice). That split second of hesitation is going to hold him back & we have seen this during the last two games. He is just a bit off on scrambles & runs.

He quite possibly will get all of this back, but it may take a bit. Remember AP took about a month to really get on track last season & it is takes a lot more to come back as a QB. I don't love the current situation. However - it is much better than seeing RG3 get hurt since the bigger issue is his long term health. I think you will see his old self soon enough - just may not be during the coming week. Who knows.

And you think the Shanny's are cool with letting him loose now?
Please explain.

RG3 is lacking mental confidence right now that he is 100% and the fault of that is partly on the coaching staff for not playing him in the preseason at all. Shoot if I was him I would be scared spitless after having gone through rehab 2 times for the same injury to the same knee.

He has the talent to beat teams with just his arm if needed but yall don't have the system in place for that right now. A change is needed until that confidence is built back up. Im a football fan and its always better when the NFC EAST is a division to be scared of.

Lots of changes ahead for our division lets hope they are for the better.

I do not think they are comfortable with letting him loose. I hope that they do in order to get this offense on track in the first half. We have two games that we can win if we start faster on the offense and control the clock. Then we have a by week and then it is Dallas. This will be a great chance for us to get our season going. SoCal was right with AP. We need to be a little patient with RG3, but we have to help him work into his old self with some runs and play action to get his rhythm going.

In the grand scheme for the Redskins, this may work out for the best. If Griffin had to spend a year learning to be a pocket QB, and then came back next year at 100% health and confidence wise, he would be a nightmare to stop. I was a fan of his at Baylor, I hope they take care of him

Yeah you should be running the read option. RG3 just needs to learn to slide or get out of bounds and avoid all the hits. The game of football has always changed over the years and the read option type offenses are the future. Considering how many HS and college teams are running it. People think the "pro style" offense will never die and some of it elements wont, but a lot of it will. Think about offenses back in the day, there not still around.

dudes we are giving up 500 yds per game , 200 rushing , 300 passing `1023 for the year and 35 points per game

what needs to happen is our players need to make plays , fred davis drops a pass and it gets picked skins wrs are dropping ball(leading the nfc ) and our rb starts out with 2 fumbles resulting in a TD and a safety

and last but not least our staff needs to cut Rg3 loose in that read option a few times early

And not to mention the defense is missing too many tackles.
