Should we get back to running the Zone Read Option? To me we should go back to what we did to win the NFC East.
We do not have to run it a lot, but yes it needs to be part of our game. The D for the other team knows that we are not going to run him so they can jump the running back and our offense looks so stagnant in the first half of games. Once they get a lead they back down and we get into rhythm, but by then it is too late.Should we get back to running the Zone Read Option? To me we should go back to what we did to win the NFC East.
I say no. This will hopefully help RG3 in developing as a pocket passer. He has a great arm and is accurate so he can succeed with less zone reads. As he gets healthier they can go back to it more often.
The problem there is that we dont have the O-line to run a drop back passing system. Because of the way the team is built, we have to run a bunch of roll outs and read option type stuff. Because straight up, our line gets abused. If we continue to try and force the pocket passer stuff right now, Kirk Cousins will be starting by mid season. And believe me, I was really hoping we could develop away from reliance on the read option. But right now its not going to happen.
Why do people keep saying he is not healthy? He runs well, looks good once he gets into rhythm. I think he is ready to take on the hits, but he is learning to get out of bounds. Let that learning curve grow so that we can control the game better. When our offense maintains the ball our defense has a better chance of making changes and fixing the problems in the game. If we do not let RG3 loose soon it will be next year that we start to talk about. I do not want to rely on winning the last 7 games again this year to get into the playoffs. The alternative of having RG3 be less able to avoid read option hits while he continues to improve is less appealing to me. Our defense is getting abused so badly right now that I would right the first few games off as preseason anyway.
Let RG3 get healthy before we start letting him loose.

I do not think they are comfortable with letting him loose. I hope that they do in order to get this offense on track in the first half. We have two games that we can win if we start faster on the offense and control the clock. Then we have a by week and then it is Dallas. This will be a great chance for us to get our season going. SoCal was right with AP. We need to be a little patient with RG3, but we have to help him work into his old self with some runs and play action to get his rhythm going. And you think the Shanny's are cool with letting him loose now?
Please explain.
RG3 is lacking mental confidence right now that he is 100% and the fault of that is partly on the coaching staff for not playing him in the preseason at all. Shoot if I was him I would be scared spitless after having gone through rehab 2 times for the same injury to the same knee.
He has the talent to beat teams with just his arm if needed but yall don't have the system in place for that right now. A change is needed until that confidence is built back up. Im a football fan and its always better when the NFC EAST is a division to be scared of.
Lots of changes ahead for our division lets hope they are for the better.
JMHO
dudes we are giving up 500 yds per game , 200 rushing , 300 passing `1023 for the year and 35 points per game
what needs to happen is our players need to make plays , fred davis drops a pass and it gets picked skins wrs are dropping ball(leading the nfc ) and our rb starts out with 2 fumbles resulting in a TD and a safety
and last but not least our staff needs to cut Rg3 loose in that read option a few times early
