Fractured Vertebrae is what I've seen so far.

The second I saw the hit I thought back injury. I can't BELIEVE they didn't spine board him. HUGE oversight on the trainer's behalf. That's how guys get paralyzed.

Dang...in thinking about it, Raymond is a guy who's been part of the Canucks for a long time now. If they were to win tomorrow, doesn't seem like he'd be able to participate in any celebrations. That'd be really unfortunate.

Canucks' Raymond reportedly out four-to-six months

TSN link there, twitter is my other source (tends to be reliable)

i posted this on the series thread:

your opinion?

i think the fact the fans were chanting like that (FLOPPER) influenced how Mike Bernstein (trainer) handled Raymond on the ice (ie not calling for the stretcher) and maybe even Raymonds reaction ... wouldnt be surprised to hear Raymond wanted to get off the ice on his feet

poorly handled by a trained pro like Bernstein but under those conditions and with how the media has portrayed the canucks and the overriding "get up" philosophy that envelops every player ... i can see why it played out that way

It doesn't matter what the fans are chanting, how the player THINKS they are, if you are there and watch that hit (which to me was CLEARLY a back injury), the player is down for a long period of time and obviously can't move on his own? That's a spine board every time. We're taught to assume the worst, play it safe, because you never know how bad it could really be. So, the second he saw that hit and most likely (I hope) assumed a back injury, you also are taught to assume that the spinal cord is compromised. It's a pretty big oversight. If that were a lower level involving a college or HS athlete, it'd be LAWSUIT big time.

the refs didnt even see the hit and the cbc cameras had only one angle of it so Im not so sure Bernstein saw it

ideally I would hope all trainers react the way you describe ... but if the player gets to his knees on his own and you have a mob yelling flopper ... i can see where things go awry

I guess the biggest thing is, I don't know what Raymond said to the trainer while he was down, and especially on this stage, you're trying to get off the ice as quick as you can, but if a guy is in severe pain involving the back and his ROM is extremely limited due to that pain, take no chances. That's just what I've been taught. I'd rather spine board a guy and be wrong than chance further injury.

Was very poorly handled, I could tell right away that was a back injury and I am not trained at all in the health field. Just personal experience. Everyone was saying leg injury, but I have hurt m,y back to the point that I couldnt move my leg that well. I am really surprised they didnt cart him off the ice.

Yeah, right off the bat I could see it wasn't a head injury based off the hit and I'm sure he would have been clutching and grabbing at his legs if it was a leg injury. I'm terrified of spinal/back injuries so I can only imagine what was going through his mind. What a piss poor job by the medical staff.

There was a moment when I thought it was a leg injury, but that's because he wasn't carted off.

after repeated replay viewings (I mean at first glance of course), Dr Recchi thought it was a compression fracture too

Why is it that whenever a player from the opposing team is injured by a player from my favorite team I somehow feel partly responsible?

Hahaha, me too.

And to comment on the Modano video...that makes me want to vomit. If that had been a much worse injury, they could've killed him. *shudder*

I was absolutelt shocked he wasn't on a board. The fact that he wouldn't move his legs should have been a pretty big hint ' hey this guy probably shouldn't be on his feet'
