C'mon Rangers, lets steal one here...and make us what, 1-37 when trailing after 7??? Or something like that.

Watch the video and scout for yourself then. I never really thought of a lower 90's straight fastball from the right handed side as a "plus" fastball

I really dislike first pitch swings.

And why not? Have you scouted the guy or done anything other than watch some shitty youtube videos on him? I don't know a thing about him, but if professional scouts are saying he's got good stuff, I'm inclined to believe them.

I've seen differing opinions. I see some tweets that rave about him and I've read scouting reports that say he really isn't anything special. Given the divide I'm inclined to be cautious. But go on believing everything you read on twitter.

IIRC he hasn't pitched in well over a year because he defected.

Ya but if he hasnt pitched in a year, then why would you pay him over 50 million when he's never faced an MLB hitter?

"The hard-throwing right-hander has a fastball in the mid-90s, a changeup, fork and a curveball. He made a splash on the international scene at the 2010 University Baseball Championships in Tokyo, and also shined at the Baseball World Cup in '09 and '11. He was suspended from Cuba's national team for most of the past two seasons for trying to leave the island."

5 pitches for the 3, 4, 5 hitters combined against their really good closer who will come back for the 10th if needed and be really damn fresh.

The twitterverse is full of self important blowhards whose job it is to create a frenzy over nothing, no real scouting or reporting going on there

Listening to the guys I trust, it was a mixed bag, which makes me think he wasn't exactly worth the money he got

I'm not justifying it one way or the other, I'm not paid to do that. My point is, if people who DO get paid to scout this player say they believe he's got the stuff I quoted in my last post, then for the price I don't think it's that bad of a deal. Simple as that.

That combination of 3-5 hitters simply doesn't work. Too many quick outs back to back. Yet another obvious reality that escapes wash.
